What were some great child stars who contributed to film and television?

First to the top of my head would be Kurt Russell (obviously not a child for quite some time, but he was a busy bee for Disney in his youth). He ended up with his head on straight, and a very long career in film.

Macaulay Culkin will always be the "Home Alone" kid no matter how old he gets.

But then everybody in the movie was calling her a girl and she played field hockey in that plaid skirt. On a side note, isn't there a scene with a typing class on typewriters? What a time capsule!

There is a scene. I'd probably mess up in that class like Foster did.
