What do you get when you put two scrawny lightweights up against a barrage of steroid enhanced behemoths going by names like "Laser", all while NFL great Larry Csonka gives you the play by play? That's right... you get ---

A classic "Gladiators" pummeling...

Yeah. Turbo lettin' a little bit of the 'roid rage out.

I loved watching American Gladiators. When I was about 10 all the other kids used to make fun of my height, so back then I aspired to be a gladiator. All the kids used to say I was going to be over 6 feet tall. But I liked Sky because she was so tall.

Here I am now as an adult who never grew over 5 foot seven inches. LOL!

That video was hilarious. The Gladiators for the most part always acted like arrogant jerks. A good part of my summer vacations as a kid were watching AG reruns.

I also enjoyed the brief revival with Hogan and Ali's daughter hosting. That didn't last long though because they tried making it a prime time show.

Don't bother playing the NES version.

I think the "seriousness" of the Gladiators was all part of the act. They wanted to portray the events as serious competition, despite the somewhat silly or childlike nature of the "games". I think they did an admirable job of making the case for the events as "sport". But down deep, like while watching 80's wrestling, you just know something about it is not real.

Speaking of Larry Csonka, I'm reminded of one of my absolute favorite episodes of MST3K called "The Final Sacrifice", where a young boy is skewered by Mike & The Bots and many references to Larry Csonka are made. Missing from the following montage is the scene where Mike, acting as Troy, asks Rowsdower for "anything with Larry Csonka on it" in the gas station.

You have a point there. Especially when 11 year olds were doing the same thing on GUTS.

"Hawk" has passed away at 49. Very unexpected.
