Mr Magic
Before or after Thanksgiving?

Well, I would prefer to do it BEFORE Thanksgiving because then it doesn't feel so much like I JUST put them up before I have to take them down again.

But, honestly, I would say that I only actually put up SOME decorations (lights and other decor that require extensive labor on my part) before Thanksgiving, and the remainder (mostly indoor) of the decorations come out afterward.

Definitely after Thanksgiving.  Definitely not until December.  In fact we shouldn't even talk about Christmas in October.  The stores are bad enough.

The tree goes up and gets its decorations on Christmas Eve.  Everything comes down after the Twelve Days.

Woah. Really? It would feel like a real waste of time if I purchased our tree, trimmed it, got it in the house, got it decorated, and cleaned up the aftermath all for one night prior to Christmas. No thank you. If I'm going to have to put effort into it, I want it up until it starts to turn brown.

Eh?  No.  The tree is brought into the house and decorated on Christmas Eve, then it stays through the twelve days of Christmas.  So it doesn't come down until Jan 6.

For me:

Christmas season: December 1 - December 27
New Year season: December 28 - January 3

Good compromise.

Family tradition is we put the tree up a week before Thanksgiving and then decorate it on Thanksgiving and took it down about a week after Christmas. Though in recent years before I moved out that changed when my step father put it up Christmas eve and take it down the day after.

I'm thinking this year, I'm going to put up the lights on the outside tomorrow sometime. We already decorated the interior with most of our stuff earlier this week, or late last week. Can't remember now. Getting it knocked out of the way early.

We never put anything up until either the day after Thanksgiving or that Saturday.

Probably not putting up anything this year. Though I might buy a small manly (Pink) tree just cause I like the odd colors that they make the fake trees.
