Now, keep in mind my submission was simply this: Shockwave from Transformers head on a Zodac body. Now, stop laughing and let's move on.
That's your ultimate winner, Fearless Photog. His powers are a bit questionable, although his creator (11 years old at the time) Nathan Bitner recently gave He-Man.org an interview and cleared it up a bit. I took his design and attempted to bring it into the NOW.
I've seen better redesigns since I came up with this one around 2002-2003. For those who don't know, Photog was supposed to be made into his very own action figure in the 80's, but it never came to be. However, that changed last year when Mattel released him as part of the MOTU Classics line. I own seven of them.
Next, I moved on to what I considered to be his Evil rival, Brainwave. Brainwave had everything you needed to make a good MOTU bad guy in the 80's. Cheesy name, cheesy look. MOTU perfection.
There were far more possibilities with Brainwave as far as re-designing him. So I went with the more electronic/technological style.
Finally, there was Compactor. I still don't understand exactly how his "power" works or could even be effective...
Yeah, that's pretty goofy. Even so, he lent himself better to re-design than Netta or Eye Beam. Seriously.
This past year, Mattel held only the second ever MOTU Create-A-Character Contest. And, once again, I lost. Apparently Mattel was looking for extremely goofy, over the top designs and didn't tell anyone. You'll see why in a second. This was my submission:
Yeahhhhh.....
I lost to this:
Castle Grayskullman. You read that right. CASTLE GRAYSKULLMAN!!!
Yup.
Maybe next time.
