After many years of bei kept archived and known as lost media, the pilot of the cancelled American version of Sailor Moon is now available to view thanks to Ray Ramona on YouTube after doing some digging around and asking certain staff members of the project about it and their inclusion with it. Now you can enjoy it in all its cheesy glory.

Mr Magic

Find it kind of funny that Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians are promoting an American product.

Ben!

This ia amazing! It's also one of the most tangled stories in animation.

My take on Sailor Moon differs from Ray Mona's accounting as I see the influence of Toei Animation in the adaptation of Sailor Moon for the anime series in Japan. You guys know that Toei Animation handled the cartoon sequences for "Jem and the Holograms" back in the '80's, and you can bet that's where the anime version pulled most of its story ideas since Toei Animation also handled Sailor Moon in the Japanese market.

The idea of a "mixed-media", live-action-animated American version of Sailor Moon scared away most of the usual backers of these kinds of projects because of extremely high production costs. Kudos to Bandi, Toon Makers, and Renaissance-Atlantic Entertainment for getting as far as they did on such an ambitious undertaking.

i still remember when the pilot was first revealed to an audience, it was met with laughter upon its opening, and i can't say i'm surprised. but it definitely has a jem influence in there with the diversity and stuff. wonder what else ray will be able to uncover!

I'm fighting the temptation to write a short story about bring Sailor Moon to the USA, but I want to keep this short by saying Sailor Moon is an example of why Saban Entertainment was so important in the '80's and '90's - Saban didn't always play nice but Saban Entertainment always managed to deliver content worldwide in every major market, in every major language.

Sailor Moon remains different from the other Toei Entertainment properties. From the first Japan broadcast in 1992, Sailor Moon became a phenomenon across Japan - bigger than anything released up to that time! Only until the rise of  Pokemon.in 1996 has anything else even come close to Sailor Moon.

Money, money, money; Sailor Moon was going Multimedia . . . Big Time!

Here's what I mean; Rocky Solotoff, from Toon Makers, was on National Public Radio (NPR) back in 1994 telling anyone who would listen that Sailor Moon was coming to the United States and it would be bigger than even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! TMNT shocked the industry, but it would be different for Sailor Moon because this time the industry was ready.
