Your blood is poisoned. You may not know that, but it is. And you can thank DuPont and 3M for that.
"The Devil We Know" is a documentary about the poison chemical known as "C8". C8 is a perfluorinated carboxylic acid previously used in products containing Teflon, Scotchguard, Gore-Tex, and many others. It has been used for various industrial purposes, all the way down to a simple microwave popcorn bag. It has been poisoning us since the 1950's, all the way up to the early 2010's. And DuPont knew this for nearly 50 years.
The story of C8 begins where I live. That's right. My "safe" little corner of the Ohio River is C8 "ground zero". My personal experience with it began in the early 2000's, when I received an offer from a study panel that I would receive $400 for a couple of blood donations that would be studied to determine C8 levels in my blood stream. I never heard much about it after that. All I knew was that it was a chemical, and that's usually bad.
This film exposed me to the reality of the dangers of C8, and the cover up that occurred to end up poisoning all of mankind. C8 is linked to various diseases and conditions, one of which is high cholesterol. I am 5'7" tall, and 160 lbs. Yet I battle high cholesterol. My water district was one of the six that were originally tested for C8 contamination. I drank a large amount of tap water used to make Kool-Aid. I'm beginning to wonder if my contamination is directly linked to my battle with cholesterol.
It is said that there are currently over 88,000 unregulated chemicals floating around in products we use or consume. That seems downright absurd to me. I'm no fan of regulation, but when it comes to what we ingest or absorb into our blood stream, there cannot be enough regulation.
