Well I'm sure I'm not the only person on here who has been following the Battlefront II drama that has happened this week. I even got to take part in reddit history by down voting the most down voted comment ever on that site. The uproar and saga that has unfolded is likely to have repercussions on the video game industry for years to come.

I never thought I would live to see Battlefront be a controversial topic. Back during the PS2 era the two original games were arguably my two favorite games. I loved both of them, and I only recently got to get copies of them back in my possession.

Now EA had to go and ruin the franchise, causing a huge pushback that is likely not going to be going away anytime soon.

It's such a big deal that I've not heard anything about it.

I bought the previous Battlefront and it was fun, especially when you used a cheat and could see where everybody was. Mwhahahahaha!!!

I've heard secondhand ramblings about this from my gamer friends. Is this about not being able to play as Luke or Vader without buying DLC or playing an absurd amount of hours?

The women of New Vegas ask me a lot if there's a Mrs. New Vegas. Well, of course there is! You're her. And you're still just as perfect as the day we met.

Basically. EA wants you to spend an absurd amount of money to unlock these characters, so they set it so you have to spend an absurd amount of time trying to unlock them.

Yeeeesh, that's scummy. EA has a history of actions that damage its reputation, but I guess they make so much money that they just don't care.

Here's a video I found that explains the situation and context, for those not in the know *coughcoughVaporman87coughcough*

EA is only as powerful as people make them by buying their games. And you want to know the sad truth... they'll keep being that powerful because they'll sell just as many Battlefront II copies as they did the first. So why should they be any different really? Clearly they've become so huge that they can poop in a box and people will still buy it. When their revenues drop to all time lows and their stocks sink 50%, then you can start looking for change.

Until then, all this growling, complaining, and wasted time on YouTube videos and Reddit posts are about as valuable as, well... poop in a box.

I feel like the tides are beginning to turn on EA. While Battlefront II might sell a good amount of copies, so much of EA's business model is based around things like these loot boxes. If this controversy continues the way it does, it's going to have lasting repercussions on them as a company.
