I ran across this video on YouTube delving into this topic. Thoughts? I agreed a lot with what was said. It seems the complexity, quality of music and other things have dropped drastically over the years

That's an interesting video. Thank you for posting. My only comment is that I don't find modern pop music so terrible. In every mountain of rocks there's always a gem or two.

I have no say in this really, because I don't listen to modern music... with very few exceptions. Having said that, all y'all's whipper-snapper music sucks.

Growing up in the 1960's was a musical avalanche of every variety, this must have had great influence on popular music for listeners and performers.

But the rise of the internet makes music spanning centuries available to everyone. Shouldn't this be a boon to musical creativity and quality?

I think the problem is that making music has become too "easy". Music software like Autotune and drum machines and all kinds of mixers and whatnot has made people lazy. It seems all that's needed nowadays is a catchy tune, a handful of lyrics that are repeated over and over and over again and loads of cash being dumped into a record label.

Gone are the complex harmonies, motifs and melodies and well-structures scores or breadth of instrumentation that we used to see many years ago.

Music is becoming less of an art-form and more of a product to sell to the masses with reckless disregard to quality.

Anyway those are my 2 cents.

I'm thinking about all the people I've known who dreamed of becoming music stars. Solo or garage bands, the web gives everyone an outlet for their talents.

But for some people music is a hobby. For others, music is a calling.

My special post for Labor Day 2017:

"The Eva Cassidy Story" from ABC's "Nightline"

It doesn't. There is A LOT of really great modern music. I could recommend a bunch but i don't think anyone would even give it a chance. It's just "the thing" for people to say and they've been saying it forever. It was said with elvis, the beatles, abba, michael jackson, and they will keep saying it. A lot of people say it without actually listening to much of it, they'll hear one lame song and then say EVERYTHING is bad, when it's not true, there's a lot of great stuff.
