Forum » Retro Video Games » I still Miss Nintendo Power Magazine 1988-2012

Getting it in the Mail sent to my Apartment every month was a Truly Magical Experience,
Nintendo Power was a Great Video Game Magazine, the last issue came out in December 2012,
then in January of 2013, a "Spiritual Successor" Magazine came out called "Nintendo Force" which claims to be the Spiritual Sucessor to Nintendo Power, now NF Magazine aka Nintendo Force is OK, but not nearly as good as Nintendo Power

There used to be a decent-sized collection up on Archive.org, but it's gone now

I'm sure you could still find a torrent of the entire run though.

The women of New Vegas ask me a lot if there's a Mrs. New Vegas. Well, of course there is! You're her. And you're still just as perfect as the day we met.

There may also be some issues up on RetroMags

My friends and I used to love getting the free posters that came with the issues. I think I might still have the "Shadows of the Empire" poster packed away somewhere.

Yeah, I was gonna suggest RetroMags too. I know I've gotten some there when I needed to refer to an old issue while forumposting at work.

To me the problem isn't that the magazine isn't made any more; it's that games are made differently. In the NES/3rd generation of video games a magazine was a good way to enhance the experience. Now, controls are more complicated so they are explained within the game rather than on paper. 3D maps don't always work so well in print. And the personality, secrets, tips and tricks, and comic strips that used to be part of the supplemental experience just don't work now. Manuals when they even exist are basically a series of csution messages or diagrams, regardless of whether it's for a fun game or a boring appliance.
