Mr Magic
A few months ago, there was a Halloween thread that asked if trick-or-treating was still a thing in our towns.

Well, what about Christmastime? Do people still have fantastic displays on their front lawns?

Hardly, there's a few decent houses and like 3 spectacular ones that I know of. I got a lighted wreath on my grill and listen to XM Holly though haha. I' actually disappointed with XM this year as all the X-Mas music is recent stuff and I'm hearing repeats often, especially from Michael Buble (sp?_

I would say it is here in my little corner of rural Virginia.  There are a fair amount of house with decorations, but the real magic is on main street.  It still gets decorated very well each year, and the town holds a contest for the best window display amongst all the main street businesses, so it's a trip in itself to just go stroll the streets and see what each store has come up with.

We also have a weekend with an outdoor Christmas market, Christmas concert at the historic Lincoln Theater, and the Christmas parade all in the same weekend.

Nah, not at all.

I think we have all come to an agreement about just how much we dislike it at this point... or at least the fact that the Summer and electric outages are in the way.

Either way, you are not going to see carolers nor a lot of decorations if you come around.

Out of all the posts so far, yours has been the most depressing, Silver. Sounds like Christmas is pretty much dead in your neck of the woods.

It pretty much is, sadly.

But there's still a ton of fun to be had in New Year's Eve, though (and I don't know why, but ALL the effort goes to sending the year off / welcoming the new one. It's like a war with all the explosions and chants).

@vkimo: You need to switch to channel 18 (Holiday Traditions).

I echo the description of Mickey. Sure there are some nice home displays, but the real magic is on the main street and parks.

Christmas is a bigger deal in my neighborhood than Halloween is, but things could still probably be a little better. I did see one house that is especially decked out this year, though.

We still have Christmas parades here annually and I still see some houses with decorations. We used to have Peppermint Pops concerts every year where the symphony orchestra would play Christmas songs and the audience would sing along to them, but we don't have those anymore.
