I applaud REI's decision. I dont think their core shoppers are quite the type to line up for discounts so I doubt it effects them much. But having worked a ton of Black Fridays over the years, I've grown to hate the whole event. I think everybody should be closed.

Agreed.
It bothers me how shoppers can't shop in a mature fashion, which is how the name Black Friday was born. "Magic can happen to you."

I never go out on black friday, no discount is big enough to make me get up that early to deal with a bunch of crazy humans. No thank you.

Why go out at 2:00 AM to battle the traffic and crowds when you can just stay in bed?

It's nice to see that people are finally realizing that Black Friday isn't worth it anymore. I used to love it, not for the deals (I've never went out), but for all the stories of all the sh*t that went down. I look forward to hearing about it every year, however, last year I felt it wasn't as big as other years. I'm guessing people are finally waking up and realizing these deals aren't actually worth it. *Insert funny signature here*

The only thing I do on Black Friday is digest.

Plus there a lot of good deals online too. Last year my parents got a Black Friday deal on a microwave they were having Black Friday sales at the store all week.

Some people get a thrill out of it. Whatever. I'm no fan of it, as I don't care to be jammed into places with a bunch of other people pushing and shoving just to save a buck.

I used to HAVE to go out on Black Friday for work. Thank God those days are over. Now I lounge around, eat leftovers, watch holiday specials, and play video games. So much more fun. If I really get a hankering for some deals, the internet is always there.

Black Friday is usually a scam, especially at Wal-Mart. They'll offer a Samsung 42" LCD for like $200 but if you do your research, that model is found nowhere online because Samsung made a special batch of cheap TVs especially for the event.
