What places do you rely on to really assist you in getting into the spirit of Halloween? Is it a local farm with a pumpkin patch and other attractions? Is it an amusement park that goes all out with the decor and haunted houses? Or maybe a festival that features everything needed to haunt your dreams?

Every year my town hosts a pumpkin festival on Main St. All of the businesses deck out their store fronts with crazy Halloween displays. There are tons of street vendors who serve hot apple cider and various baked pumpkin goods. There are games for the kids, and later carriage rides through town and on occasion there are even haunted bounce houses set up for the really hyper children with energy to spare.

Wow! That sounds really awesome. I wish we had something similar around here.

It really is. It's also a bit surreal, but that might only be because I am a recent transplant from the city where we didn't have anything like this. In a lot of ways I feel as if I have moved to Stars Hollow(shameless, or shameful, Gilmore Girls reference)

At my old hometown the local park had a major Halloween festival. I haven't been to it since I left but I remember it being pretty fun.

My hometown has a lot of stories of hauntings and other spiritual urban legends. Reading up on them always got everyone into the Halloween mood. One of the most famous ones was about a rock where a violent conflict between local Indian tribes and settlers eventually culminated into a sacrifice of an innocent settler girl. Around Halloween there's always reported sightings of the girls spirit hovering on the rock, given that the urban legend states that was around the time the sacrifice took place.

But the rock has another creepy aspect: the road surrounding the rock has this eerie trick, where if you stop your car on the road, your car will apparently roll uphill. Just about everyone in my hometown knows of this trick, and I've always wanted to try it.

I know once I see all the commercials on tv for the Halloween themed events. Disneyland, Knotts, Magic Mountain, and Universal Studios.

Is this in New Jersey, by any chance? I have heard of this there, but never anywhere else.

New York actually. I heard of other ones like that across the country, but given the creepiness behind the urban legend, that one always creeped me out.
