In the year you were born, what were some major events that occurred that time?

For me, in 1985:

Dairy Queen's "Blizzard" was introduced.
Back to the Future was one of the hottest movies.

Let's see...

- Hank Aaron became the all-time home run leader, in my own home state no less.
- Stephen King published his first novel (Carrie).
- Richard Nixon resigned.
- The Rubik's Cube and Dungeons & Dragons first appeared.

And speaking of the Blizzard, more than 175 million were sold in the first year. Wowzers!

The 1984 Olympic games and the summer games were held in my hometown; winter games were in Sarajevo. The 1984 US presidential election.

- Newhart ends it's run on TV
- Adam Sandler joins Saturday Night Live
- Goodfellas is released in theaters

Yeah. Still hard to imagine that even this area would be a ghost town like Chernobyl had things really gone south. This report you've posted is happening while radiation is leaking out. They didn't even know it. Things were really bad, and everyone was being told it was just fine. That's what is scary.
