Yay? I really don't care about smartphone gaming. I never really cared about handheld gaming, to be honest. I grew up with consoles, and have remained a dedicated console player exclusively.

I know this is a smart financial decision for Nintendo, but I'm not thrilled with the idea. Outside of puzzle games, the controls on mobile games blow. Nintendo is known for quality games with great controls, and I just don't see that happening.

Smart phone games are actually a big part of what drove me back to original game collecting. They refreshed my desire for video games, but were incredibly unsatisfying. So unless these games are free, I will not play them. And if they are free and I do play them, I expect to reach their limit of my entertainment rather quickly. However, I remain very curious about the new console. The smartphone games doesn't mean they're going to stop making console games (yet), in fact they're completely outsourced from what I understand.

I don't have too much of a problem with this. From what I read, this really seems to be more of an advertising business platform for their dedicated consoles. Meaning that mobile gamers would get a taste of the Nintendo experience, and then let the people playing them know that there are much better gaming options on their dedicated systems. And hey, if this brings more people over to the Wii U and 3DS, then I think this will be a great thing. As far as the games themselves, I highly doubt they'll be anything groundbreaking... and I'm pretty sure Nintendo themselves want their mobile games to be sort of crappy. I'm not a big fan of mobile titles, although I have been playing Pokemon Shuffle on my 3DS.
Right now, I'm more interested in Codename NX. But they're probably not going to reveal more info about it until the next year or so. |
I'm way ahead of them.. I've had a NES emulator on my phone for a while now.
The women of New Vegas ask me a lot if there's a Mrs. New Vegas. Well, of course there is! You're her. And you're still just as perfect as the day we met.

They've explicitly said they are going to be new games and they definitely will not port old games to phones.

Yup. I've been through Morey Amsterdam, Rose Marie, and Mary Tyler Moore. This wraps up my Dick Van Dyke Show avatars. I've done The Munsters and The Honeymooners. These were planned for a long time, not sure what I'll do next.
