That's right folks, Peter S Beagle (creator and author of the original 1968 novel that started it all and the writer of the 1982 animated film) has announced he is working on a screenplay for a new live-action version of The Last unicorn.

But this isn't a remake of the Rankin Bass 1982 cult animated classic but rather a new adaptation of the book.

At least the creator is involved with this so I'm happy.

Given that the same person has done or is doing the writing in all three versions of the story, I find this distinction even more pointless than usual.

After seeing this thread I went and watched the original. I thought it was pretty decent. I'm sure Bronies will be all over this movie.

Im a brony and i dig the original film since i was 4 as it was one of my childhood faves along with the Star Wars trilogy, Dark Crystal, NIMH and more as it came out in the year of my birth 1982.

The original film did had appeal to both genders and all ages just like MLP FIM you know as it had a nice soundtrack by America (I own the CD soundtrack as it has one of my fave songs by America called Man's Road), great cast, laughs, a bad*ss monster and not to mention a sexy animated chick known as Lady Amalthea whom i remembered having a crush on when i was a kid and a teen whom is definitely on par with the likes of Taarna from Heavy Metal, Black Cat from Spider-Man comics/shows, Judy Jetson, Kida from Atlantis the Lost Empire, and Abigale Arcane from Swamp Thing comics as one of the hottest chicks with white hair. Plus it was one of the first US/Japanese collabrations in animation features as it was done by Rankin Bass who made everyone's childhoods.

I have an ideal cast:

Emily Browning *Drool* as Lady Amalthea and Unicorn's voice.
Joel Moore from Avatar and Grandma's Boy as Schmendrick.
Chris Pine as Lir.
Helen Bonnie Carter as Molly.
Kane Hodder as Ruhk
Linda Hunt as Mommy Fortuna.
Ron Perlman as Captain Cully.
Patrick Stewart, Doug Bradley (Pinhead from Hellraiser and Lylesburg from Nightbreed), Alan Rickman or Robert Englund as King Haggard.
Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid in Harry Potter) or Jim Cummings as the Cat's voice.

My ideal director is Alfonso Cauron and the film should be produced by Peter S Beagle with James Cameron and Guillermo Del Toro and effects should be done by either Tom Savini or Rick Baker and WETA. For studios can be Fox and MGM and Carolco and ITV productions.

Yes, but that's not to say I remember anything besides the art style. I taped it off TV when I was a kid.

Wow Harry, you definitely have this thing planned out. Maybe you should start a Kickstarter for your version.
