| 41732 | Last Movie You Watched | I just watched it last night as well. <div><br></div><div>I thought it was the love child of The Happening and A Quiet Place as well. I still didn't get how some people reacted differently to seeing the "thing", and it's left open to wide interpretation. Very atmospheric and I was definitely getting the heebie jeebies - much more enjoyable than typical horror movies. | 41731 | Last Movie You Watched | <p>Bird Box (Netflix, 2018)</p><p><br></p><p>This movie is a bit like a mix between A Quiet Place and The Happening. And while I enjoyed A Quiet Place (haven’t seen The Happening entirely), this Sandra Bullock film really amps up the feelings of dread and foreboding. It manages to thoroughly give you the creeps without ever showing you what it is exactly that is driving humanity to kill itself off. Some great casting with Bullock, John Malcovich, and the rest. | 41730 | Has 2018 Been Good To You? | 2018 was, for the most part, a good year for me.<div><br></div><div>To get the bad stuff out of the way, I made a few slips of the tongue at my retail job and was treated by the managers as though the slips were made purposely, despite my protests to the contrary. On the home front, I had a very vicious argument in April with my brother about our memories of my late mother. Put briefly, I suffered mental, emotional and occasional physical abuse at her hands, but my brother refused to believe that most of it happened, and the stuff he did believe happened, he said I bought it upon myself and had it coming for being a jerk to her, which I never was on purpose. It's just that Asperger's Syndrome made life difficult for me and my mom didn't understand it at all, leading to a lot of vicious arguments and...</div><div><br></div><div>Enough with the bad stuff. Let's get to the highlights of the year. </div><div><br></div><div>I attended the Chiller Theatre convention in Parsippany, NJ in both April and October for the first time. Normally, I just go to the October show, but I decided to attend the April one as well, and had fun. I met a lot of wonderful stars at both the April and October shows, including some Facebook friends and previous interview subjects. It was really a lot of fun.</div><div><br></div><div>On the writing front, I reached my 100th article for Pop Geeks this year, and not only that, but I broke the 100 interview mark as well. I've kept track of all the interviews I've done between RetroJunk from 2006 through 2013, the Adam F. Goldberg interview I did for this website (which earned me some negative feedback from one of Retro-Daze's users that led me to relapse into some old behaviors before I texted some of my entertainment industry friends for advice on how to deal with negative criticism), and the dozens I've done for Pop Geeks. </div><div><br></div><div>I interviewed a lot of wonderful talents this year, including Lisa Wilcox from "A Nightmare On Elm Street 4", Dee Wallace from "E.T", adult film veterans Sheila Marie and Julie "Gina Carrera" Winchester, Barbie Wilde of "Death Wish 3" and "Hellbound: Hellraiser 2" fame, multi-talented Pleasant Gehman, Oscar-winning visual effects artist Robert Short (who took home a Best Makeup Oscar for "Beetlejuice"), actress and director Deborah Voorhees of "Friday The 13th: Part V", Jennifer Rubin from "A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" and "Bad Dreams", Tom Ruegger (the creator of "Animaniacs", "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" and "Histeria!"), Ami Dolenz (of "She's Out Of Control" and "Miracle Beach" fame who currently is a painter), Sherri Stoner (writer for "Animaniacs" and "Tiny Toon Adventures", model for Disney Princesses Ariel and Belle, and the woman who has been my biggest influence as a writer), Donald F. Glut (Legendary independent filmmaker, comic book artist and horror aficionado), and Loretta Swit of "MASH" fame. When the Hoboken International Film Festival returned to my hometown of Greenwood Lake, New York for the second year of the town's contract with the festival, I also wrote an article with red carpet interview from the festival's closing night. I interviewed, among others, Joyce DeWitt from "Three's Company", "Legally Blonde" screenwriter Karen McCullah, Playboy veteran and current comedienne Julie McCullough, and Tia Carrere from the "Wayne's World" movies. I'm currently waiting to hear feedback on the transcript of an interview I did with Asian-American actor actor and activist Aki Aleong (how's that for alliteration?), and that will be either the last interview I publish in 2018 or the first interview I publish in 2019.</div><div><br></div><div>My autograph collection has continued to grow, and so has my DVD collection. One of the non-interview articles I wrote for Pop Geeks this year celebrated the home entertainment label Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and when I shared it to their wall, they promoted on both the Studio Classics and regular Kino Lorber Facebook pages.</div><div><br></div><div>All in all, as 2018 draws to a close, I'm very happy with my life and what's going on in it, and I'm already planning some big things for 2019.</div> | Caps 2.0 | Dec 29, 2018 | |
