Which one do you like better?&nbsp;<span style="font-size: 10pt;">This is an interesting comparison because both cartoons were contemporaries in 1967 and competed for the same audience.&nbsp;</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><br></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">1967 was "ground zero" in the Saturday Morning Superhero battle between the three major networks - all the result of what I call the "Superhero Revolution" of 1965.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><br></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Before 1965 Saturday mornings were fairly quiet affairs, but Filmation changed all that when it brought Superman back to television with an animated series on CBS called, "The NEW Adventures of Superman" in homage to the 1951 live action series. Nothing like this had been seen on TV since the Fleischer Brothers Superman animated series from the 1940's.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><br></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">CBS and Filmation cleaned house that year and it didn't take long for NBC and ABC to respond the following year. The result was the spectacular 1966/1967/1968 cartoon seasons as each network tried to out-do the competition.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><br></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The network battle was the main event but behind the frontlines was the studio wars as Hanna-Barbera was dumbstruck by the speed with which Filmation had made a home for itself at CBS. H-B had to move fast cuz Filmation had a whole galaxy of new shows to offer CBS for 1966 - and I was in cartoon heaven!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt;">For reasons I will never understand, NBC stood by its decision to stick with "The Pink Panther" series from DePatie/Freleng, a move that had my friends at school scratching their heads. The Pink Panther was getting a whoopin' on Saturday mornings. By 1967 NBC was looking for a musclebound hero of its own to save face. Thank you to the guys at H-B for the "Birdman and the Galaxy Trio" series. NBC was still struggling against the&nbsp;</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 13.3333px;">competition but now they had better street cred. Like "Space Ghost", "Birdman" has found a second life in the 21st century.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt;">&nbsp;</span></div> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/alXW_hS0gSo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>eddstarrJan 17, 2016View

28075Show within a Show or Two for One<div>Doesn't it seem to you guys that it's easier to suggest a 'show within a show' rather than create visuals?Audience imagination will always work in the shows favor. What makes "Itchy and Scratchy" outstanding is the degree of detail involved.</div><div><br></div><div>Remember "The Itchy and Scratchy Movie"?
