It was announced following the recent Nintendo Direct that SNES games are now being offered for the first time for the 3DS... or rather, the New 3DS. Yeah, I understand that people are upset that they cannot play the games on the original 3DS hardware, but I understand why Nintendo is making it exclusive to the New 3DS. It's because the original 3DS' hardware does not emulate SNES games properly. It's a bit of a double-edge sword, but I do think it's one of the only ways to get SNES games to be released on the 3DS. Though, I already have a New 3DS system, and I haven't really seen much of a reason to buy SNES games on the system. Maybe when Earthbound comes out?<br></div><div><br></div><div>One thing the SNES games on 3DS does have is a pixel-perfect mode. It basically sets the resolution to the original resolution that SNES games were made for. The video output signals that the original hardware would use actually stretches the resolution on the TV screen. The original, unstretched resolution is very common for SNES emulators to use, and that option is now available on the New 3DS Virtual Console. Personally, I prefer the stretched TV resolution... but whatever floats your boat.</div><div><br></div><div>There's more SNES games coming at the end of March and the middle of April. One thing I hope Nintendo does is include a crossbuy option. Hopefully, something that they would incorporate through the My Nintendo Account system. Because I doubt people who bought SNES games on Wii U would be willing to repurchase them again for the New 3DS.</div> | blueluigi | Mar 04, 2016 | |
