32498Virtual Console ThursdaysLast week didn't any official Virtual Console releases. Mainly just ExciteBots as a Wii download title. But we do have something this week for the week of December 22, 2016.

Wii U Virtual Console:

Mario Party 2 (N64)
$9.99

Yes, folks, just like before with the original Wii Virtual Console, the first Mario Party game is being skipped on the Wii U Virtual Console as well. The reason for that was because the first Mario Party game was very controversial for causing blistered palms and friction burns due to minigames that required you to rotate the joystick really hard. This nearly got Nintendo in trouble, and so they sent out gloves to some of the people who were affected by this. However, I think what really caused the blistered palms to happen was due to the Nintendo 64's stiff control stick. Nintendo has since made more comfortable control sticks, from the Gamecube and up... and for that, the blistered palms probably would not be likely to happen if they played these rotating stick minigames. Nevertheless, it seems Nintendo no longer wants to take that risk, and for that, don't ever expect to see the first Mario Party game released on the Virtual Console service.
blueluigiDec 23, 2016View
32497Christmas Article Contest 2016Oh wow. I feel like the credit should go to the man who inspired the article though. All I did was tell the tale.

But thanks to Lee & Linz for judging, and for them choosing my entry.

And lots of thanks to everyone else who writes and submits articles here, because everything I read stirs up some old memory from my own life, and seeing how active everyone else is keeps me motivated to continue being active and contributing.

And many, many thanks to Vaporman for sponsoring such cool contests, and for providing us a place to gather and share memories. I had thought so before, but my opinion was reinforced a hundred fold when I finally met him, and can say that Vapor is just one of the nicest and coolest people I have the pleasure of being associated with. As much hard work as we can see going into the site, I'm sure there is even more work he does that we don't see that keeps this place going. His dedication to this community and sanctuary is unparalleled. For that, I don't think I could say 'thank you' enough.

But thanks guys and gals for reading, for the ratings, and for all the great comments on the article. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed putting it together and sharing what a great Santa, err, I mean Dad I have.
mickyarberDec 23, 2016View

32495Christmas Article Contest 2016I have a Christmas present for one luck winner:

From Lee & Linz: Thanks to everyone who entered the RetroDaze Christmas Article Contest! The entries were a joy to read-- some heartwarming, some funny, many reminiscent of our own holidays. It was a tough choice, but 1986: The Year That Santa Became Real definitely stood out. Congratulations to the winner and everyone else who entered!
--Lee & Linz, Pop Rewind: http://www.poprewind.com

Great work Mickey. 32494A Campbell's soup commercial from the 90sYeah, they still show it. I don't think I saw it this year, but I do remember seeing it in recent years, like a year or two ago. Even in the 2000's I remember seeing it. It's one of those classic commercial concepts that can still be shown year after year, like the Corona Palm Tree Christmas commercial.Rick Ace RhodesDec 23, 2016View

32490A Campbell's soup commercial from the 90sI haven't seen it this year that I can recall, but I haven't paid much attention either so it could have aired. Also does anyone know if that kid is related to Bill Mumy? I swear he should have played Anthony in a Twilight Zone remake.BattyDec 23, 2016View
