37378Why Is Modern Pop Music So Terrible? It doesn't. There is A LOT of really great modern music. I could recommend a bunch but i don't think anyone would even give it a chance. It's just "the thing" for people to say and they've been saying it forever. It was said with elvis, the beatles, abba, michael jackson, and they will keep saying it. A lot of people say it without actually listening to much of it, they'll hear one lame song and then say EVERYTHING is bad, when it's not true, there's a lot of great stuff.
Jrs1991Sep 07, 2017View

37375The CaféThe other day I am speaking with an employee at the yogurt shop about movies. I mention a quote from "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" that he doesn't get. After realizing he hadn't seen the film, I started rattling off other John Hughes movies. He had never heard of any of them. Not Breakfast Club. Not Ferris Bueller's Day Off... none. I then mentioned John Hughes, and received yet another blank look.

This is unacceptable in a business that I own. I will not tolerate such a lack of '80s knowledge, even from Millennials. So I am instituting an '80s exam. They will watch 5 films of my choosing, and be tested on them. The person with the best score will get lunch on me, and will have the final hour of one of their shifts covered by me.

I weep for this generation, but I won't stand idly by as they proceed through life in ignorance of the greatness that was the '80s. If you are going to work for me... you are going to LEARN! Vaporman87Sep 07, 2017View

I definitely recommend checking out at least one or two of them one day. I'm a big enough fan of the genre that I could definitely help recommending some of the better beach party films. Beach Party and Beach Blanket Bingo are considered by most to be the best of the bunch. You might want to check out one or both of those. Beach Blanket Bingo is often considered to be the best by critics, but Beach Party came first and is my personal favorite.

As for that clip, I remember first seeing it while watching AMC's American Pop, which was a short-lived block on AMC where the network would air an old movie (often a beach party film) and then follow it up with old trailers, music clips, and drive-in movie ads to round out the two hour time slot. It makes me very nostalgic just thinking about it because that block was the beginning of me becoming fascinated with '60s pop culture.
SupermanSep 06, 2017View
