Summer Memories 2
Summer is here again and I thought I'd do something special. With school out and families planning on going away for the summer I thought I would share some summer stories and a couple birthday stories with you guys. Some fun, some not so much. But all memorable. So without further delay, let's get into summer memories.
I used to go to summer school as a kid. Though that may sound boring, in actuality it was like a day camp.... with some educational things added in because it was still school. I still had fun though with numerous field trips, movies, and other activities. Probably my favorite one is going to the local theme park called Seabreeze. It's both a water park and a theme park. As a kid I enjoyed the water park part of the park as a way to cool off though as I got older I started to enjoy the theme park side of it more since I turned into more of a thrill seeker. It's home to The Jack Rabbit, a wooden roller coaster that still operates to this day. A favorite of mine that was called the Quantum Loop since it was my first looped roller coaster, The Gyrosphere which is a scrambler ride inside a building with lights and music, and The Screaming Eagle was one that I didn't go on until I was a bit older since it was a ride that would keep you restrained on an arm and spin you for a few loops. Three going one way and three going the other. When I first went on it the teacher next to me used to scream the whole time. At the water park I went on two water slides, The Vortex which was enclosed and The Riptide which was open air. After that I went to The Wave, a wave pool that can make waves up to four feet tall. I used to jump as they came for fun. I also enjoyed The Lazy River. My friends and I would try to bump each other into the falling water effects. Afterwards we would go onto a few of the roller coasters to dry off. Other things that we did in summer school were parties, trips to museums and trips to movie theaters.

Strong Museum of Play was a museum that I used to go to with my family at least once a year. It is a museum based on the concept of playing to learn. It is also the home to the National Toy Hall of Fame and more recently the World Video Game Hall of Fame. I can remember the Sesame Street area and Wegmans the most. Another museum I went to was Rochester Museum and Science Center. It's much more educational, though there are things there that are just as fun. I can remember going to the kids section and playing with a remote control sub in a tank to resemble Lake Ontario. They also had a motion simulator with a ride through Lake Ontario in a sub like vehicle and it would talk about the lake and the ship wrecks in it. The other exhibits are much more on the educational than fun. Most are about nature with fossils and the animals in the region. Other exhibits are about history and science. But they have something that I loved going to as a kid and that is the Strasenburgh Planetarium. I always loved seeing movies on the ceiling about sharks since I grew up loving them as a child and still do love them as an adult.
Some of the best days came from my backyard, I would have friends over with a slip and slide and plastic pools for our squirt guns. I used to have a wooden playground with a plastic slide and what my family would do is put a water hose at the top by the plastic slide and put a slip and slide tarp under it and let the rest of it go out in the direction of the slide. If it was raining, I would watch television or movies and play with my Legos, Transformers, and my NES and later my N64.
The more I look back, the more I feel joy and happiness. Summer holds some of the best memories I have. I'll have a few more next time I do something like this. Until next time, Live Life and Live Nostalgic.
