Top Five 90s Summer Movies

The two movies on this list that made the biggest impression on me are also the two that are probably the most criticized. I'm, of course, talking about Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Wild Wild West. They may not have been great movies, but I sure do have some fond memories associated with them.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace rules. It wasn't the best Star Wars film or even the best film of the Prequels, but it is certainly my favorite of the Star Wars Saga and I'm tired of seeing nerds still trashing it along with the other two Prequels on sites like this.
I mean the Prequels came out in 1999-2005. That almost 20 years ago now. To kids like me who grew up in in the 2000's, The Prequels was our Star Wars and meant as much to us as the Originals did to 70's/80's kids. Most of those who grew up with the Prequels are also adults now and it's time we had a bigger voice and be allowed to express nostalgia for something we grew up with.

I normally try to stay in the 80s lane, but I do know 90s pretty well, too. I don't think you can possibly put Good Burger or Wild Wild West on the Top Summer Movies of the entire 90s decade. The other 3 can definitely be considered. Here are a few that could round out the Top 5:
Independence Day, Armageddon, Speed, True Lies, The Lion King, There's Something About Mary, Apollo 13, The Fugitive... just to name a few.

I have to disagree with you on Good Burger. I was a regular viewer of All That as a kid, but didn't bother to see the film in the 90s. I just watched it for the first time last year and it's actually hilarious. The humor is pretty subversive and clever for adults if you read between the lines.
Look for a mention of the T2 stage show in an upcoming article of mine. I guess with the Terminator 2 3-D re-release coming soon, it's in the air.

I remember the hype as well, It was the only thing besides Pokemon and Lion King that got the most hype.

I watched Jurassic Park multiple times in the theater in 1993. Terminator II was awesome in the theater in 1991. After waiting 16 years since Return of the Jedi in 1983 the excitement was in the air in May of 1999. There was a countdown on the news counting off the days until the movie release for The Phantom Menace. It was the first time in my life I remember seeing people lining up in advance to get movie tickets. I remember everyone cheering as the Lucasfilm logo appeared on screen. I tried hard to like it but I was severely disappointed. Ray Park as Darth Maul and Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi were the only saving graces. I remember thinking wow they even screwed up Yoda who was a puppet. No matter the amount of eye rolls today when the movie is mentioned I will always remember the excitement building up to its release.
