For those not in the know, E3 (known as the Electronic Entertainment Expo) was an annual event that took place in the state of L.A. where game developers, publishers and accessory manufacturers would gather to bring together crowds of gamers and consumers to show games and products that were coming soon, holding press conferences, shows and booths to gather hype. It was certainly big during the 1990s and 2000s as 3D gaming was making a name for itself in the game industry.

But after the pandemic of 2019 it caused a stir in both performance of shows as well as scheduling of further E3 events, so much so that publishers and other media outlets were turning away. Efforts were made to try and bring back E3 in the past couple of years, but as of this year it's been stated that it's all dead in the water now. Did you happen to catch any press coverage or events of E3 back in the day?

What?!

Well, this is a shock! After the Pandemic, pretty much everything resumed! But E3?! This is a kick to the groin!

Wow. Never thought this would come to an end. Then again, I hadn't followed any E3 info for years.

Not a shock to me. It was already heading that way pre-pandemic. Like everything else, COVID just sped up the demise. On one hand while I feel E3 kind of outlived its usefulness given the changing media landscape, on the other I feel this really captures the death of gaming.

It was nice to have a big event that really captured the cultural hub of gaming. I would have loved to have gone back in the 2000's during the golden age of gaming. Without it, gaming now just feels even hollow and empty.
