I'm convinced that the connection between breakfast cereals and Saturday morning cartoons became a fixture of the 1950's after the major movie studios closed their animation houses beginning around 1955.
This left a cartoon industry struggling to make a living.
Kellogg's taught the world how to turn cartoon mascots into cartoon characters and thereby cemented the association of cartoons with children. For better or for worse, we are still living with the legacy of animation looked upon as children's entertainment.
