One of the music legends responsible for the "Motown Sound" died on August 8, 2022, at the age of 81.
Lamont Dozier was part of the famous songwriting team, Holland-Dozier-Holland, that crafted many of the blockbuster Motown hits for groups like the Supremes, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, and The Temptations; just to name a few.
After Motown, Lamont Dozier worked with various artists and various record lables. The variety of singers and bands that sought Mr. Doziers songcrafts was very impressive.
Enter Phil Collins, and his film debut role in the 1988 movie,"Buster".
Pil Collins reached out for Lamont Dozier's help with the film's musical score and key songs. And the results were wonderful. "Buster" garnered two hit singles, one of them being "Two Hearts", a song that won a Golden Globe, a Grammy and an Oscar nomination for Best Song.
For as long as you guys have known me I've often said, "the 20th century is a tough act to follow". The movie, "Buster" is a case in point, about a small time robber name Buster Edwards who in 1963 plans, with the help of his friends, to go Big-Time by robbing the Royal Mail train known to be carrying over $2 million in cash.
Somehow the unlikely mixture of crime, music and comedy all comes together in a movie, and hit song, that just wouldn't, or couldn't, be made today. Take a look and a listen - then tell me that these clips don't transport you back to the 80's - with a Smile!
