I would love to see a period piece Superman movie set during the 1940's seeing Superman face off against Nazis. Imagine him blasting planes out of the sky and lifting a Panzer tank as an homage to the Action Comic of him lifting a car.

It would also tie in the Mechanical Monsters as the Nazis try to build their own machines to defeat Superman.

The main antagonist would be a kryptonite fueled Metallo. In the final fight, Metallo uses his magnetic powers to grow to Kaiju size in the ultimate battle between man (er Kryptonian) and machine.

I like it. It would definitely have a different feel to it. Something Supes needs right now.

This would probably work as one of DC's original animated films. They've done other Elseworlds stories in that series. Last year they did an adaption of Superman: Red Son. One of my favorite comic books.

I don't see it as a strong contender for a live action, mainstream release. Especially in today's climate. You know it would be a hot button catalyst for people who want to argue and fight with each other online. From either side.

@Rick

I was thinking that a sequel could be set in the modern day sort of similar to the Captain America series.

Superman would age a lot slower and we would see his patriotic optimism clash with modern day cynicism. The sequel would be like the Empire Strikes Back where Superman would confront the person responsible for the destruction of Krypton- Braniac.

OK, I see where you're aiming. You want old school "Action & Adventure" type excitement and fun - the kind that made Superhero comics so popular in the first place. As an animated story not only would Superman's attitude clash with modern sensibilities but even his "drawn style" could be old school, to match his behavior and make the character a true standout.

The Fleischer Bros. Superman series from the 1940's rings true to the original spirit of Superman. Everyone understands the timelessness of Superman's character, Restoring Superman back to his place in pop culture sounds like a winner to me!
