Happy Snowmageddon Holidays Everyone!

Hope you guys have a Seasonal sense of humor cuz this is the time of year when I can't help but go back to my high school years and share some moments that always bring a smile to my face.

When it came to music during my freshman year the Jackson 5 were still very dominate, but by 1972 young black men were forming singing groups all over the country and the songs were in the air, everywhere!

WRAP-AM Radio in Norfolk, VA. was very active in giving new talent access to the airwaves and the Holidays were filled with a galaxy of musical styles and skill levels. It all made for an interesting contrast to the usual Christmas standards and helped to keep everyone's spirits bright.

Many of these "boy bands", before the term became popular, made one or two recordings and then were never heard from again. Others groups found success and went on to local/regional fame and/or merge with other bands under new names.

The Younghearts, started in Los Angeles, but quickly grew to national attention and were very popular among black-owned radio stations up and down the eastcoast. Truth is - The Younghearts were Fun!

Here, try this big ol' mess of a song from 1972. Tell me you can't feel the Holiday Joy as these guys fall all over themselves, and the orchestra, as they plough through every line cuz they're having the time of their lives!!!

(betcha the guy at the mixer threw-up his hands and said, "these dudes are just making it all up as they sing", lol)

Merry Christmas to All My Retro-Daze Friends!
