It's a lot of fun to look back and review favorite old movies. But also along for the ride is a bit of rewriting history, a sort of wishful thinking.

Personally, the 80's was a roller coaster ride of fun and fun was the name of the game in entertainment. Everyone wanted that "feel good" movie experience.

June of 1982 delivered the goods with the release of:

"E.T. the Extra Terrestrial"

"Blade Runner"

and "The Thing"

Don't rewrite history, E.T. blew all the other movies right outta the water! Under the circumstances, "The Thing" did very well but ET was, and still is, a family favorite movie.

But if you're a fan of "The Thing", takes a look at Rudy's movie review of John Carpenter's masterpiece from 2017. This has to be one of the best YouTube movies reviews, ever!

Poltergeist deserves a mention too.

Yeah. The Thing was one of those remakes in the '80s that improved on the original.

You love this signature.

"The Thing" is a movie that came alive thanks to cassette rentals and dvd sales. The ability to rewatch scene by scene is where John Carpenter's attention to detail really pays off. The rise of CGI in movies seems to have made writers and directors lose the fine control over shaping a film. Pratical effects like in The Thing may find a second life as new projects come up next year. I would like to see less use of CGI and more character development.

Isn't it amazing how we can look back to a time when entertainment was awesome? When you and I first started online chatting did you ever imagine a future like what we're going through in 2020?

No, I haven't.
