Before the era of the pc most fans seldom saw their favorite singers and/or bands unless they appeared on television. Beyond American Bandstand there were any number of music shows, all aired in primetime.
The Midnight Special was notable for making late night Saturday, early morning Sunday, television the place to be to catch popular music of all kinds.
