Another wonderful song from Broadway! Must be from Irving Berlin's medeley of Broadway musicals from the 1930's. What makes this tune so enjoyable is that it can be played as a full instrumental or you can add the lyrics. This musical style lends itself perfectly to cartoons. Thanks to animation from the 1930's a lot of old music might be lost on younger generations. It's only been in the last few years that I realized that many of the old "pre-code" Hollywood movies I saw on Sunday afternoons as a child are now lost and may never be seen again! There was an old black & white film from the 1940's that had a wonderful scene with this song taking place in a diner with wait staff providing the background vocals but I don't know the namme of the movie. Betcha there must be dozens of versions of this song, here's one version I've heard most: |
