for my parents and i fake is always the way to go, obviously so we don't have to go through the hassle of getting sap on our hands.

We have had both real and fake. But since our home remodel finished, we have been doing a fake 12-footer. You love this signature.

Real tree (if you cut it yourself)
Most Forestry Services offer tree tags for about $10 and they will give you a map of where to cut down your tree. The yearly tree cutting can be a tradition all on its own, just don't get too ambitious like Clark Griswold. lol |
