Some spends lots of money on real ones, whilst others spend less on fake ones.

Which do you get?

for my parents and i fake is always the way to go, obviously so we don't have to go through the hassle of getting sap on our hands.

Fake, though since we have cats, no tree.

We have had both real and fake. But since our home remodel finished, we have been doing a fake 12-footer.

Fake. It's a lot more durable, better looking and is much less of a hassle.

Real tree (if you cut it yourself)

Most Forestry Services offer tree tags for about $10 and they will give you a map of where to cut down your tree. The yearly tree cutting can be a tradition all on its own, just don't get too ambitious like Clark Griswold. lol

If you forget an ax, you'll have to be like Clark and pull the tree by its roots.
