So it's being reported right now that Toys "R" Us may file for bankruptcy in the coming weeks, or even as early as sometime this week. If this is true, the last really big toy store franchise will be on it's way out. I never thought that out of everything from my childhood that wouldn't be around for my children, toy stores would be one of them.

Very sad news for major retail, especially just before the 2017 Holiday season.

But keep an eye on small, local specialty toy stores with emphasis on hand-made toys.

heard about it on facebook too. it sucks, toys r us was one of my favorite places of my childhood. also it was where my parents would buy video games long before game stores like funcoland and eb games existed.

That's pretty depressing news as Toys R Us is one of those places I enjoyed going to as a kid. I haven't gone there a ton, but when I have, it was always exciting to look around at all the varieties of toys, action figures, video games, and so much others.

There's a Toys R Us close to where I work that I go to sometimes. They have some nice collectibles, but it doesn't really seem that full of people. I guess it's kind of expected in the day and age of online shopping.

I'll be sad if or (most likely) when Toys R Us shuts down. That, along with GameStop is one of those places I'd hate to see go away. Yeah, I know GameStop doesn't offer the best experience, but that's one of the last full video game stores offered, and I would hate to see that go as well.

I always dreamed of working there.

Looks like that's coming to a screeching halt.

what's even more sad is that some funko pop figurines were exclusive there, such as a recent crash bandicoot themed one with crash bandicoot: warped crash on a motorcycle.

Toys R' Us was a magical place, it was always a treat to go there throughout all ages of my childhood. I remember receiving the Toys R' Us catalog around Christmas time.

We can only hope that it can successfully restructure and have something positive come from this. But I fear that in the end, we're going to lose a big piece of our childhood retail experience... again.

This much I can say... it sure isn't happening because of my spending habits. I should own stock in the company with all the money I've spent there on my kids.

Well apparently it didn't take long at all: they have officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

They already turned our former Circuit City into an Ashley furniture store. Like we need another furniture store.

I hope they don't replace our Toys "R" Us store with something we already have or something we don't need.
