Since SeaWorld is now back in the news for (once again) all the wrong reasons, I figure we should have a thread in regards to SeaWorld since I'm sure we have all had experiences with this place.

Personally, I never liked SeaWorld. I went there once in January of 2006 and felt like we were completely ripped off of our money. Most the park was actually pretty fun, but I felt like we got ripped off by the biggest attraction of all: the Orca show.

For starters, the entire show lasted less then twenty-minutes. Plus, we were seated up front in the splash zone and we didn't get a single drop of water on us. I felt like we get robbed and made a personal decision to never go back to SeaWorld, even if I was an adult with my own children.

Now it seems like I don't even have to holdout anymore. Ever since that Blackfish documentary came out, SeaWorld has seen nothing but declining profits. I don't think we have ever once seen a documentary have such a massive effect on a company. Even Super Size Me didn't have such a huge effect on McDonalds.

i feel like your story should've been in the unpopular opinions thread lol. regardless, i've never once been to a seaworld show (my family was and always will be poor) but i'm sure if i went through a similarly disappointing experience my stepdad would go on an angry rant about wasting our money.

I went to Gulf World in Panama City Beach, but not Sea World.

I originally thought about placing it there, but then I realized that hating on SeaWorld isn't such an unpopular opinion anymore.

My experiences at SeaWorld were always good. Not great... but good. I enjoyed the park even more when they started adding thrill rides. I too watched the documentary, but did so with a grain of salt. There are always two sides to any give story, and that doc only gives one side. I don't make judgements based on one sided arguments.

I agree with you. Super Size Me was one of those documentaries I never took seriously. Apparently people have not been able to replicate Morgan Spurlock's results, and the reported calorie intake he was claiming daily was mathematically impossible to reach. When people have contacted Spurlock to ask for his food logs, he's allegedly never responded back.

My entire stance on the killer whale issue is simple: are all zoos and aquariums bad? No. Is SeaWorld just this monstrous entity that is dangerous to all marine life? Of course not.

However, are killer whale's a type of animal that should be held in captivity? No. They are advance predators that are extremely intelligent. They've evolved specifically to live a certain way: in pods made up of their families, which removing them from brings out their most aggressive instincts. Has SeaWorld at points been negligent with properly handling their killer whales? Most likely, especially in regards to the now deceased whale named Tilikum.

Agreed. Maybe they should refocus their efforts on those in the wild. Sponsor a whale and place a tracker on it to update people on it's life. Just do away with the whale show

I like how Al Bundy compared the large woman to Shamu.
