Has anyone else seen the new movie? What are your thoughts on it?

I saw it over this past weekend and enjoyed it a great deal. It's definitely one of the better movies that have come from the DC movie universe. I know that's not saying much to some people, but this film really is good. I loved the way that they managed to update Wonder Woman's story while still remaining true to her roots. Better still, the changes to the classic story felt natural. I didn't feel that that was always the case with Man of Steel or even the changes to Batman in Batman v Superman. In those films, some of the changes felt like they were different just for the sake of being different from the other versions. Perhaps that was somewhat unavoidable since Superman and Batman have been adapted so many times, but some of the inorganic changes took away from those films, whereas the changes made to the classic Wonder Woman story helped this film and felt natural.

Gal Gadot did a good job at bringing the character to life. In fact, I was somewhat surprised by how good she was. I had some initial concerns about how well she would fit into Wonder Woman's shoes the first time I saw her in costume due to the fact that I wasn't sure she had the right build for Wonder Woman and the fact that the costume's coloring seemed off to me. I didn't have any issues believing that she was Wonder Woman while watching the film itself, though. I don't want to get into anything else at the moment in case people haven't seen the movie yet, but I'll close my thoughts on the subject by saying that I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this Wonder Woman in the future.

Yes, you've brought up another good point. There was some nice humor in the film, something that many said was lacking in the few DC movies that preceded it.

Is there any way at all that DC isn't playing catch up with Marvel? Marvel's been blending humor with action since Day One. It only took them three films to figure that one out.

DC Comics got this idea into their heads years ago that completely dark story-telling was the way to go and it's been present really every since. It started with 2004's Identity Crisis and really has continued to this very day, even after multiple, horribly done comic book events pissed their fans off to the point that DC was forced to eventually relaunch the entire DC Universe (which ended up sucking for it's entire existence and forced yet another relaunch after five years).

Needless to say, DC Comics needs to really reorganize if they plan on contending with Marvel.

I just wonder if it's a case of the people who have been creatively involved with the other movies figuring it out or if it has something to do with the fact that the director of Wonder Woman (Patty Jenkins) wasn't involved in those other movies.

I haven't seen it, but it seems to better received than most of the other recent DC movies.

Would you believe that even Wonder Woman, a symbol of feminism for decades, isn't safe from the scorn of the tumblr crowd? There's a pretty decent article that does a great job of calling out some of those complaints.

(Caveat: It's from a heavily conservative website. Doesn't mean they can't be right every once in a while.)

The women of New Vegas ask me a lot if there's a Mrs. New Vegas. Well, of course there is! You're her. And you're still just as perfect as the day we met.

That headline alone was so worth the click.

The first DC movie that looks good since the Nolan Batmans. I rarely make it to the theater but this is a contender for sure.

That was a nice read. It's shocking to me that anyone would have those types of complaints about this movie.
