On Monday, August 21, 2017, the Moon's shadow will trace a path across the entire lower 48 of the United States - from the Pacific Northwest to the Atlantic Southeast.
At a speed of 1,500 miles per hour, locations in the "Zone of Totality" will only have approximately 2 minutes of darkness.
There are people who travel the world over chasing after the Moon's shadow, but I think viewing the eclipse is better with your computer monitor. I plan to spend the day with NASA online.
Some people never experience a Solar Eclipse in their lifetimes.
2017 will be my second Solar Eclipse. I am blessed to have been a witness to the Total Solar Eclipse of March 7, 1970, along the east coast of the USA. I was 12 years old at the time and, of course, I ran outside as the sky darkened - just like everyone else in the neighborhood!
Believe it or not, the 1970 CBS News Special on the Eclipse of 1970 is actually posted on YouTube.
And I mean the entire hour-long broadcast in 6 parts. Unbelieveable.
