For years, even before I joined Retro Junk, I've told anyone who would listen that the years 1970 to 1972 were very special, especially where music is concerned.

I have trouble describing it but you can hear it for yourself with the right tune. There was a unique sound in popular music as the 70's began and it still strikes me as a sound that didn't last into the later years of the decade.

Now take a guy like Wilson (Mac Daddy) Pickett as an example. Wilson is an American Original in every sense of the word from a time when I was just a kid in middle school. Go back to the year 1971 and take a listen to Wilson Pickett to get a sound that I feel was unique to the early 70's:

Now, hold on a minute!

That song, "Call My Name, I'll Be There", has that special sound that other songs from 1970 to 1972 share. Can you guys hear a little "Josie and the Pussycats" in the background singers? There was definitely a certain "vibe" in the air as the 70's began.

Remember Isaac Hayes and the "Theme from "Shaft"?

Well now that you've heard "Call My Name, I'll Be There", you're ready to hear Wilson's lead song from the same album called, "Don't Knock My Love". I swear I can hear a little Isaac Hayes here!
