Was Scarface (1983) considered underrated?

In either case, it was a cult classic.

Funny thing about the 1983 Scarface when I took a film class back in 2003 almost everybody in the class wrote a paper about that movie. The teacher told the class she was sick of reading papers about Scarface. In class we had watched the 1932 version.
