I remember along time ago at Retro Junk I read an article concerning that animated adult film from the 1980's called Heavy Metal. The writer has only watched it a few times since he saw it as a kid, only breaking it out on occasion to watch.

Do you have one of those types of movies? A special occasion movie that was part of your childhood and you only watch from time to time to relive those memories?

The only one I would say as of now for me is Project X. I remember Project X being pretty big at my high school when it came out a few years ago. Everyone was talking about it and how you needed to see it. After catching it at the theater, I've only seen it one other time, which was recently, and which brought back some fun memories from that time in my life.

Donnie Darko is a very special movie to me, I watch it every couple years, each time I gain a greater understanding/appreciation for the film.

It takes me back to two specific times in my life- high school and my freshman year of college.

As far as these types of films from my childhood, I would say any Holiday film. Naturally those are only good for bringing back memories associated with the holiday they deal with.

Outside of that, I would say Watership Down, a movie I only watch every few years, if that. Yet, it was very important to me as a child. Teaching things like how to deal with loss and adversity.

In more recent times, Passion of the Christ. A film I watched only once, in the theater. At the end of the movie, you felt as though you had been through an experience as opposed to a movie. Nobody among the packed house said a word as we exited. It was so surreal. I decided I would never again watch it, as that would take away from the power of it.

The 1968 Oliver!. My father loved that movie and I watched it a lot when I lived with him. I always cry at the end so I only watch it once every few years.

Mr Magic
I would say Stand By Me. It's one of those films you have to be in the right mood to watch.
