It seems nothing can stop the behemoth of marketing that is Angry Birds. Everywhere you go now, there is some product with Angry Birds on it or used for inspiration.

This made me ponder the comparison between Pac-Man Fever and the Angry Birds phenomenon. Pac-Man (the game version anyway) was kind of a vague character. He didn't speak or have much in the way of personality. He just ate ghosts.

Angry Birds is much like that. They don't have much personality aside from... well... anger. They are game characters very much along the same lines as Pac-Man. So, is Angry Birds the NEW Pac-Man?

I downloaded Angry Birds for my HP Touchpad not too long ago. It's just a game to me. I don't really understand the phenomenon.

Pacman's merchandise was way cooler though.

I agree. I have yet to see Angry Birds soup. When that happens, perhaps they have reached Pac-Man Fever levels.

was more than a hit game. It was a genuine cultural inflection point. Everywhere you looked, there was Pac-Man: On boxes of breakfast cereal, on television, even on the radio. It marked the first time a particular videogame and its iconography became as culturally relevant as a hit TV show or movie.

It also arguably marked the beginning of Japan’s impending pop-cultural invasion of the rest of the world, even if players at the time didn’t know where it came from.

So yeah, Pac-Man is 35 years old today.

I have these glasses. The tumbler has the maze on the other side. The stein has the same design on both sides.

This is the one I really want, but I haven't been able to find it:

Nice mugs. I had glasses similar to the one on the right (with no handle). Though the image was a bit different.

Totally not impressed. I think they are putting this out a little late as well.
