| 14689 | Comic Books | Marvel's doing this thing in their movies dubbed "shared universe". That is, all the characters exist in the same world (except the ones in Sony movies <img src="http://www.retro-daze.org/images/smilies/MavLaughOutLoud.gif"> ) ...and you almost have to see all their movies if you want to know everything related to a given major character. Well, this isn't a new business model for them. In the 90s, following Spider-Man or the X-Men meant keeping up with four main titles, plus ancillary appearances in others. They had interweaving story lines, so you couldn't read<span style="font-weight: bold;"> just</span> <span style="font-style: italic;">Uncanny</span> or <span style="font-style: italic;">Amazing</span> without some plot point hinging on something that happened elsewhere. I got rreeeeaaalllll sick of that, and moved on to one shots, miniseries, and especially independent comic books--many of which may as well have been miniseries, for how short their runs were. So I've got plenty of #1s, but most people haven't heard of most of them.
