Fifth Annual Article Contest | <p>Woah! Totally unexpected after seeing the other articles, I didn't think I had a chance. What a fun topic to write for, thanks Tony! And thanks Linz and Lee for judging, I know that had to be a hard choice. Everybody did so awesome! </p> | WesAllen | Sep 02, 2017 | ![]()
Why Is Modern Pop Music So Terrible? | <blockquote rel="eddstarr"><b>eddstarr wrote :</b><br><i> Growing up in the 1960's was a musical avalanche of every variety, this must have had great influence on popular music for listeners and performers.<div><br></div><div>But the rise of the internet makes music spanning centuries available to everyone. Shouldn't this be a boon to musical creativity and quality?</div> </i><b>-end quote</b></blockquote>I think the problem is that making music has become too "easy". Music software like Autotune and drum machines and all kinds of mixers and whatnot has made people lazy. It seems all that's needed nowadays is a catchy tune, a handful of lyrics that are repeated over and over and over again and loads of cash being dumped into a record label. <div><br></div><div>Gone are the complex harmonies, motifs and melodies and well-structures scores or breadth of instrumentation that we used to see many years ago. </div><div><br></div><div>Music is becoming less of an art-form and more of a product to sell to the masses with reckless disregard to quality. </div><div><br></div><div>Anyway those are my 2 cents. </div> | Linux_Sage | Sep 02, 2017 | ![]()
The Ghosts of Labor Days Past | <b>@eddstarr</b>: Funny you should mention that song. The Paul Davis version was played this week on SiriusXM's '80s on 8 during the Top 40 Countdown for this week in 1982. That was the first time I recall ever hearing the song. Paul's version only made it as high as number 40. <br> | Vaporman87 | Sep 02, 2017 | ![]()
The Ghosts of Labor Days Past | I hear a little, "Word Up", in the cord shifts of "(You've Got Me Confused With) Someone Who Cares", especially when the background singers chime in.<div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;">Labor Day has always been an "odd" holiday for me because I associate it with the last fun before going back to school. And back to school was high with anticipation and anxiety. Kinda "fear of failure" mixed with "back with my old friends again".</div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;">As a result, music on the radio during Labor Day would stick in my brain in a way it never did the rest of the year.</div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="">Let me pick on <b style="font-style: normal;">1970</b> again, my goto year when I want to make a point,<i> lol.</i></div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;">The neighborhood always came together on Labor Day so the parents could share the joy of having the kids go back to school again. Us kids sorta formed a support group to ease the fears over another looming school year. </div><div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><br></div><div style="">Somehow the song, "<i style=""><b>Love . . . or Let Me Be Lonely</b></i>", seemed to sum up perfectly what I was feeling back in the day. I'm sure you'll know what I mean when you listen to it. </div><div style=""><br></div><div style="">Btw, this has to be one of the strangest song titles ever!</div><div style=""><br></div> <div style="position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:75.0%"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OBYNxfyJgH0?ecver=2" width="480" height="360" frameborder="0" style="position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div> | eddstarr | Sep 02, 2017 | ![]()

Why Is Modern Pop Music So Terrible? | I have no say in this really, because I don't listen to modern music... with very few exceptions. Having said that, all y'all's whipper-snapper music sucks.<br> | Vaporman87 | Sep 02, 2017 | ![]()
| 37306 | Fifth Annual Article Contest | Lee and Linz from Pop Rewind have made their tough choice:<br><br><div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1504373994516_2479"><i>Hi Tony,<br><br>Thanks again for asking us to be judges for the RetroDaze Annual Article Contest. | 37305 | The Ghosts of Labor Days Past | Oh, man. I don't know if anyone else will agree, but I hear a little bit of "Word Up"'s melody in this <div><br> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pS4QHKCjO5I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Also!
