2408 | Article | Vaporman87 | Ring King, Castlevania 2, Excitebike, and even Defender of the Crown... I owned all of these titles at one time, and all were great. I had all but forgotten the fun of Ring King. It was a different game altogether than Punch Out, and that made it a new and fun experience. It was nice to read about how Tetris brought you and your father together enjoying the same thing. That can make even a boring game much more meaningful and memorable, yet Tetris was a top tier title. I was never able to get my dad to try games either. That is something I swore I wouldn't do as a dad... turn down offers from my children to enjoy things they enjoy. | Jul 17, 2015
2411 | Article | Vaporman87 | Konami getting plenty of love from you in these lists Mickey. Rightfully so. Contra, Castlevania... they're true classics. Can't speak for Carmen SanDiego, but it must not have been too bad to make your list. I can remember being at my grandmother's house playing the NES with my cousin who was living there at the time. Using the extra life code and the both of us blasting our way through the baddies. Good times, those. I'm surprised Contra didn't resonate through the decades in the same way that games like Metal Gear did. Perhaps one day a new Contra series will take things to a whole new level and revive interest in it's history. | Yesterdays: MY Favorite Nintendo Games Part 2 | Jul 21, 2015
2415 | Article | Vaporman87 | Awesome!!! I love this story. I can't imagine the fear... the juices flowing through you trying to get away. Especially knowing you were on government property. That's just crazy. Were you certain it was an MP vehicle? I have nothing that comes close to that story to recall, but I did have some uncomfortable experiences either causing trouble or getting caught in places we shouldn't have been. For instance, the most trouble I ever go into was when I agreed to help a neighbor soap the windows of another neighbor whom she did not like. We also put shaving cream on his mower. We somehow got caught too, and in a good deal of trouble. My wife and I had the worst luck of all time when it came to finding spots to "make out". Once was in the parking lot of an abandoned K-Mart. To have a cop suddenly shine a flashlight on you and knock on your car window is startling to say the least. He wanted to make sure my wife wasn't in any duress, which I can understand. Then there was the time in a local park that was closed after dark, but we went to anyway. After seeing a cop pull into the park to look around, we quickly hid under a picnic table (which, as you can imagine, didn't provide much cover). We just laid flat on the ground as the cop car shined it's flood light all around the area. Either the cop just laughed as he saw us and decided to leave us alone, or he just didn't see us somehow, because he left and we didn't have to face him. There were a couple other incidents too. It was like our lips touching created some sort of alarm that went out to all police stations in the area. LOL | The Real Goonies | Jul 23, 2015
2420 | Article | Vaporman87 | LOL. Perhaps. Though I imagine it would only have served to decrease the amount of their adventures... not eliminate them altogether. | The Real Goonies | Jul 24, 2015
2417 | Article | Vaporman87 | Holy cow! Two "adventure" articles in one week? You can't beat that. This is a great story. It reminds me of those days when you just knew treasure was hidden somewhere around you, waiting to be found. Why it would be there, who would have put it there... didn't matter. It was there, and you were going to find it somehow. Making it even better though, is the fact that there was this relic of a by-gone era that you found. That really adds to the excitement of it. I love the reference to Homeward Bound and that you felt you needed a machete for the trip. LOL Thanks for sharing this kstrom. | Digging for Treasure | Jul 23, 2015
2424 | Article | Vaporman87 | You are not alone. I too delved into the mysterious art of Ninjit... I mean, Karate. I'm pretty certain my foray into it was even shorter than yours. I may have taken two or three classes and called it quits. It was just... so... boring. I think the clincher was that I tried very hard to perform the moves correctly, but found myself having my fist raised like, a half an inch higher by instructors. Seriously? You really think that's necessary? Will an opponent allow me make such adjustments? "Oh sorry, I punched you just a smidgen too low. Hang on and I'll give it another go." Yeah, I was done. My oldest son, on the other hand, has outlasted me by a great deal. He has progressed to his yellow belt, and is on the verge of moving up to orange. I don't think he really gets much enjoyment out of it though. I don't think it IS an enjoyable thing for youngsters. It's more of a means to feel a bit more confidence and learn some discipline. I'm considering some other alternative for him that I know he might enjoy, like Cub Scouts. I spent a few years in Cub Scouts, progressing all the way to Webelos before dropping out. I think he might (possibly) find that to be more enjoyable, but I'm not sure. | The Karate Class Kid | Jul 28, 2015
2428 | Article | Vaporman87 | Super Mario 3, Ivan Stewart, and Pro Wrestling were staples of my childhood gameplay. Super Mario 3 was an awesome sequel and really had a lot going for it both in hype and in the final product. Ivan Stewart was a game that my brother and I would play religiously. It was a really fun multiplayer game and we enjoyed building up our trucks and giving it to the A.I. competition. And, of course, Pro Wrestling was just a blast. Loved the characters (my favorite being Amazon), the moves, and the mechanics. A friend of mine who was a big wrestling fan (more than me) and I would get together and play the game for long periods of time. Not just a great wrestling game, but a great NES game period. | Yesterdays: MY Favorite Nintendo Games Part 3 | Jul 29, 2015
2443 | Article | Vaporman87 | I never had the opportunity to place this one. It seemed to stray quite a bit from the standard Mario offering, and I think that made me unsure of whether or not it was worth investing any time into. I guess I figured nothing could top Mario 64 | Article Classic: Super Mario Sunshine Review | Aug 02, 2015
2444 | Article | Vaporman87 | My Trapper Keepers were vaults into my imagination, which also happened to house my schoolwork. I decorated them and filled them up with tons of sketches and comics I drew during study hall. I never had a really cool backpack. They were always pretty plain looking, with no licensed product on anything on them. Now my folders were a different story. I had lots of different folders featuring cartoon characters to just funky shapes to just plain red or blue. Those too were decorated to fit my desires. Those pencils with the "bullet" leads were some of my favorites, even if they weren't that practical. I don't think owned any of those until I entered high school though. I do have a story that pertains to this subject a bit. Once, while I was cleaning out my desk while our teacher (Mr. Will, a bit of a hothead) giving a lesson, I suddenly heard the smack of my pencil box on the top of my desk and saw it shatter into pieces before me. My stuff went everywhere, including one of those compasses with the sharp point on it to hold it in place on the paper. It startled me. Then I saw that it was the teacher who had picked it up off my desk and shattered it. He didn't like that I was cleaning my desk while he was talking. He then said something to the effect of, "And I don't care if you tell your parents about this, it's your fault." Well, I did tell my mom (my parents were divorced at this time). She was dating a State Highway Patrolman at the time, who was 6'8" tall. He and my mom went to pay him a visit. LOL The next day, he apologized to me and the class, and purchased me a new box. Yeah. I think he ended up caring that I told a parent. | Retro School Supplies | Aug 02, 2015
2446 | Article | Vaporman87 | Nope. In fact, I went on to become a ninja (or at least dressed exactly like one). I got a ninja suit for Christmas one year out of one of those martial arts catalogs. | The Karate Class Kid | Aug 02, 2015 |
