Article | Vaporman87 | First, I really love the McDonalds Barbie play set. Imagine the outcry over such a thing being on the market in this day and age! Next, I was so absolutely sure that those Herself The Elf toys were Strawberry Shortcake toys at first glance. Also, loving the Garfield items. My sister and I had several of the Smurf figurines, but none of the houses and such. We simply crafted our own out of cardboard, scissors, and markers. MOTU!!! I had everything you see there on that page when I was a kid. But, sadly, it was all eventually sold off in yard sales. Later in life, I started picking up those same toys off Ebay. I have a used Attack Trak and Point Dread now. The adventure book I kept from my childhood. Those things were so much fun (hence the addition of the Read-Along Adventures section of the site). I didn't have any Power Devils, but I did own several Stompers (which Tonka produced, I think) which were basically the same concept. It was always a blast running them over the bridges and obstacles that you could purchase. I do have an affinity for old catalogs, but have not invested in any to date. I have perused several online that have been uploaded in PDF form. And you can indeed find the occasional toy that never made it to final production (Trendmasters Doom Island Godzilla line comes to mind). Thanks for this Miss M! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. | Nov 29, 2013 | ![]() |
Article | Vaporman87 | I have been at that place you are now. Where you feel like, there is still magic in Christmas, but it's getting harder and harder to find it. But I'm here to tell you to just be patient, because that magic comes rushing back... when you have children of your own. Sure, it's a lot more work, and the perspective is reversed... but watching the smiles on the faces of my kids and just enjoying all the great things about the season with them, it brings all that magic back... in adult form. Just you wait and see. | ThatDude's Christmas Memories | Dec 05, 2013 | ![]()
Article | Vaporman87 | Doesn't it seem sad to think that a franchise like McDonald's offering books in their Happy Meals is "newsworthy"? I'm mean, what do we expect anymore? What WILL we expect in the future? Will Happy Meals have to come with iPhone cases or some other "tech" crap? Now, for Taco Bell to offer ANY toy or prize seems peculiar, simply because you see so little of that from them these days. The last thing I remember getting there was a Godzilla (American '98 version) cup holder for your car (remember the "Here lizard, lizard, lizard." ads with the dog?). | Literary Classics at Taco Bell | Dec 05, 2013 | ![]()
Article | Vaporman87 | I know Chick-Fil-A did a Berenstain Bears book promotion in their kids meals not long ago. They were essentially shrunken versions of actual BB books on the market. Very neat. I think instead of toys with meals, Taco Bell should include some Zantac and a portable potty. | Literary Classics at Taco Bell | Dec 09, 2013 | ![]()
Article | Vaporman87 | I hate to be a downer, but I was not much of a fan of the second Gremlins film. It felt TOO campy for my tastes. Almost like one of those Disney "sequels" to their top line properties that go straight to home video release. Still, it had it's moments. I bet it was hard to bring yourself to crack open that package containing a mini "time capsule" of sorts. It's like your cracking open a bottle of the 80's that kind of hits you in the face for a second and then disappears. You ended up with some nice additions though. | 897 | Article | Vaporman87 | WOW! This is a really well done article, and it's obvious you spent a great deal of time putting it together. So thank you for that vkimo. One thing I picked up on right away is that, although our Christmas experiences were so different growing up, the spirit of it and the magic feeling of the season can be felt regardless. Having grown up and lived my entire life in an ultra small community, I can't relate to the splendor and awe of a place like San Fran during Christmas. Even so, I recognize that feeling from my own memories. It's something that transcends your environment and circumstances. I laughed at the insertion of Rain Man and the generic fat guy as stand ins for your relatives. LOL. Hilarious. Thanks for this vkimo. A great read! | A Yuletide Yakking | Dec 12, 2013 | ![]()
Article | Vaporman87 | This special is very well done. I had not seen it at all until only within the past few years. I was instantly captivated by it. With He-Man and She-Ra no longer part of our toy culture (on a large scale), this is one you won't see played on a major network like the Peanuts or Rankin Bass specials. But it's every bit as good, if not better. I highly recommend it. Thanks Miss M! | He-Man and She-Ra Celebrate Christmas too! | Dec 13, 2013 | ![]()
Article | Vaporman87 | I can't say I watch any particular feature length films to get into the Christmas spirit (though, I like watching Scrooged around this time of year). I settle for the short specials that air every year. But now I just pop them in the DVD player instead of looking for them in the TV Guide. Some favorites of mine are Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty The Snowman, Twas The Night Before Christmas (Rankin-Bass), the Chipmunks Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, etc. All of your choices are very interesting though. I've never really thought to watch any of these during Christmas, though they take place during that time of year. Thanks again Miss M! | Dorkette Christmas Traditions | Dec 14, 2013 | ![]()
Article | Vaporman87 | I think the length was just right. Just enough information to relay your fond memories without going into mundane details. It's easy to relate to, and that makes it a memorable read. | ThatDude's Christmas Memories | Dec 14, 2013 | ![]()
Video | Vaporman87 | I don't know Ben. They show Charlie Brown every year and Linus has that whole quote from the Bible in it. Maybe they just feel like Garfield isn't relevant enough and doesn't carry the nostalgic power of Charlie Brown during the holidays? | A Garfield Christmas Special | Dec 17, 2013 | ![]()
