ArticleHoju KoolanderVery interesting to get your perspective on these films as someone who wasn't in the thick of Batmania in '89 like I was. I think Nolan's first 2 films hold up against Burton's very well, but lack the fun comic book hyper-realism that Nicholson and Keaton enjoyed with the production design of their films. Batman '89 gets my vote for most entertaining comic book movie of all time, but I'll admit there's a heavy dose of nostalgia leading to that decision. Sep 20, 2017View
ArticleHoju KoolanderI thought McDonald's Pizza was totally extinct, but now you're telling me there are 2 locations that still serve it? Pair that with a McSalad Shaker and I'm ready to roll!Retro Fast Food That is No MoreSep 24, 2017View
ArticleHoju KoolanderAs you know, we were watching the same stations growing up and I only caught The Weird Al Show 2-3 times in it's original run, even though I was a big fan with all of his albums (except Polka Party). Luckily I rented the DVD set from Netflix a few years ago and got to watch the whole series. It was super quirky and fun, like the Nickelodeon version of his movie UHF.The Weird Al Show a Way Moby Forgotten ShowSep 24, 2017View
ArticleHoju KoolanderYour re-enactment of playing Mouse Trap is 100% accurate. I bought it based on the commercial and it fell flat. They have revised it since then and the version I bought for my son actually works in it's simplified form. Very fun.Five 90’s Toys That Never Lived Up to the HypeSep 24, 2017View
ArticleHoju KoolanderVery sweet story of Brotherly Love (sans the Lawrence Brothers). The idea of not understanding the odds against you in these contests is so right on. Ahh, the optimism of childhood. My Sister and the Harriet the Spy Nickelodeon Contest Sep 24, 2017View
ArticleHoju KoolanderYou're right, despite the constant fighting, comic book heroes do often represent the best ideals of humanity, even in the face of "evil". Spider-Man especially with The Lizard, Green Goblin or even Venom always tried to talk sense into his foes, understanding they were mentally unwell. My Super ChildhoodSep 24, 2017View
ArticleHoju KoolanderThis kind of Japanese release fascinates me. Thanks for sharing. It reminds me of this anime film of The Guyver I found in the 90s called Out of Control that was a wacky one off story changing some key plot points and characters. Luckily there was also an anime TV series that was much closer to the original manga. The Great Mission to Save Princess PeachOct 09, 2017View

ArticleHoju KoolanderI totally understand the obsessing over female celebrities. I was all about Tiffani Amber Thiessen with Teen Beat magazine photos all over my bedroom walls and school folders. I gave up being so forward about it in high school when a cute girl asked, "So are you a stalker or something?" Shut me right down.Jennifer Lopez: My Biggest Celebrity Crush of all TimeOct 09, 2017View
