4875 | Article | shakin steak | Fans of the first movie, look for the First Publishing graphic novel TMNT Volume IV. That collects the original comic book issues that were the basis for the film. There are scenes with the thrift store, Leonardo getting lost and beat up by the Foot Clan, April's family farm, Casey and Raph talking smack. Like most adaptations, the book takes more time, but is better than the movie! Check it out if you're so inclined. As for the space element, I agree about the Star Trek figures. Those were pretty lame. But overall, the series has a good relationship with outer-space style science fiction, if you would again go back to the Mirage/ Eastman and Laird comic books. The Triceratons were from another universe, and so were the TCRI guys that cartoon Krang was based on. There were many other story arcs besides those, that dealt with aliens and time travel. Speaking of time travel, some of the video game screenshots are from Turtles in Time which was the second arcade game, not mentioned in the text. Anyway. Not to be too critical. Great article! I always like to hear these personal memories and that counts more than anything. | Mar 03, 2019

1768 | Article | Vaporman87 | EXCELLENT!!! Darn you Hoju, you have tread on hallowed "retro" ground and I'm extremely jealous. I would have done the exact same road trip with the whole family, given the chance. That is just awesome. Bill and Ted made history just a little bit cooler than it once was for the remaining 3 years of my high school life, following the release of the movie. Suddenly I found myself looking up history on all these characters (excluding Abraham Lincoln), because I had never paid much attention prior to that (you only memorize stuff for tests, then it fades into obscurity like every other piece of knowledge you'll never need). My friend is an avid Con attendee, and he had the opportunity to meet and chat with Alex Winter (whom he said looked the same today as in '89). He had mentioned that a new film was in the works and that Keanu was on board with it, but who knows if that will ever surface. As for places nearby caught on film, there isn't much to speak of here in no man's land. Even so, it's not completely devoid of filming locations. Here in Rutland, our streets and buildings have been caught by the camera for documentaries and specials pertaining to the infamous Skatopia skate park. Not something we're proud of. But just a few miles away, in Point Pleasant, WV, many television shows and documentaries have been made regarding The Mothman. Most famously referred to in the Richard Gere movie, The Mothman Prophecies (though no filming for that movie was done in the actual town it happened in... seriously, why do they do that?) | Bill & Ted's Excellent Filming Locations Tour | Jan 07, 2015

4196 | Article | vkimo | Excellent summary of a most excellent tip! That trophy your family got is awesome! I'm also glad you finally got to meet up with Rob. He was a great guy and really in tune with his fans. I enjoyed the retro goodies that were abundantly displayed, but like Vaporman said, the time hanging out with you guys was the best. It was a smaller group, but that allowed us more time to hang out and get to know each other more. Hopefully we can continue this tradition! | RetroCon 2017 Report | Nov 07, 2017
1301 | Article | echidna64 | Excellent picks Hoju! I especially love Donald and the Gorilla! There's a special short called, Runaway Brain, which was released in the 90's. For the longest time, I couldn't find it and I thought that it was something I had dreamed up as a kid. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ByJcAV4Oj8w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> | What to Watch on Halloween | Sep 22, 2014

2988 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Excellent choice for #1! "Cherish" was the first physical media music I ever owned. I got it as a vinyl record single for Christmas when I was 7. Never was a die hard Madonna fan after "Cherish", but she inspired Weird Al Yankovic's "Like A Surgeon" so I give her props for that. | Top 10 Madonna Songs from the 80s and 90s | Oct 23, 2015 |
