1619 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @NLogan Seriously, amazing photo analysis skills. Do you work for a secret retro-toy wing of the FBI? | Dec 11, 2014
1638 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @vkimo I never knew you were such a Batman devotee. Did you attach this velcro bat-symbol or did you buy it that way? I am intrigued. @Vaporman87 glad you can back me up on this. Speaking of Batmania, there was a VHS that came out around this time called "Holy Batmania!" covering the phenomenon. My copy no longer plays, but I remember this segment of Adam West as Batman at some rinky-dink fan event giving it his all to entertain. It was sad and inspiring at the same time. Interesting that you had Mantis, he came at the end of the line when Kenner started throwing in lesser known characters, just because they had cool designs or making up new ones altogether. @thecrow174 Yeah, the return of Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters in '89 were just some the highlights, I wonder if we will get a year like that in the 21st century. | Batman '89 Remembered | Dec 15, 2014
1641 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @NLogan Yeah, those variations in the Batman and Joker head sculpts are so interesting: square jaw, round jaw, Joker with double hair curl. Glad you got to enjoy so many parts of this moment in time. @thecrow174 Maybe we just need a little perspective. A decade from now we might be saying 2015 was the year of all-time classic films and blockbuster hits. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is coming out next year after all ;) | Batman '89 Remembered | Dec 15, 2014
1644 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Being born in '82 I missed the initial E.T. phenomenon, but I did somehow end up with a stuffed animal that had a leather like texture to simulate his alien skin. Such a weird choice for a "cuddly" toy. Right there with you on recording to tape! I personally commandeered every cassette recording device in my house to record old-timey radio dramas, morning drive comedy shows and NPR style interview segments. For Christmas a few years ago my sister got me a brand new tape recorder and some blank tapes to pay tribute to my old hobby. To echo Vaporman87, I can only hope my kids care enough to listen to my childhood ramblings. I will look forward to their reviews. | My Christmas 1982 | Dec 15, 2014
1649 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @Vaporman87 I might just take you up on that. It's about time to transfer those recording before the tapes disintegrate anyway. | My Christmas 1982 | Dec 15, 2014
1651 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @MissM Thanks. Glad to know I'm not alone in remembering that this thing existed. Where did you get the magazine? Super Market? Toy Store? | Mortal Kombat Memories | Dec 15, 2014
1660 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Your Christmas tale definitely makes me wish we had an extended family we could visit, but my wife and I are both "stranded in the desert" far away from home. I loved the excitement of family reunions growing up and seeing all the distant relatives I never knew existed. @NLogan That is a pretty great lesson your Dad taught you guys. Your epic story makes me realize I should have involved my Dad when my Star Wars toys got stolen by a neighbor kid and his brother. My Mom just didn't have that intimidation factor. | vkimo's Christmas Special | Dec 16, 2014
1676 | Article | Hoju Koolander | It's definitely Nintendo that binds generations and family. Genetic connections are great, but who's your favorite character on Mario Kart? Nintendo breaks down all walls. I remember being fascinated with Mario Paint and the fact that they stuck in that fly swatter game for the kids that weren't very good at "creating art". Starfox was the game packaged with the Super NES set that I got one Christmas and I never really expanded my collection past that (just rented from Blockbuster). But really what more did you need? Cool graphics, neat character designs and simple, but challenging gameplay. Good times. | How Mario Saved Christmas... and Other Super Nintendo Tales | Dec 17, 2014
1681 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @BarryBgp and thecrow174 I'm glad to see Dutch getting so much love this Christmas. And hey, it's good to have you in the mix here, Barry. @Vaporman87 My wife is in full agreement on Emmett Otter and I started watching The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus last night. It's like the Lord of the Rings Christmas Special, pretty epic. | What To Watch on Christmas | Dec 17, 2014
1683 | Article | Hoju Koolander | I think you made the right choice with "The Night Santa Went Crazy". "Christmas at Ground Zero" is less relevant since the Cold War ended. | My list of Holiday songs | Dec 17, 2014 |
