1357ArticleHoju Koolander@NLogan That is an awesome story. I assume the clerk was being a punk to your Dad? If not, I feel bad for the kid that was just reporting what the computer said. Either way he learned a lesson in "common sense" that day. Oct 02, 2014View
1368ArticleHoju KoolanderPacked to the gills with Halloween goodness, the Creature would approve! Your love ofnthe holiday ismplain to see. Thanks for that odyssey of great costumes and memorabilia. I would have loved to have enjoyed classic Monster Movies in 3-D on TV, instead all we got were John Wayne films. But I was there at 7-11 to get my Hondo glasses nonetheless. Loved those spooky LPs. I had a Haunted Mansion record growing up that dramatized the ride, I can still hear the Raven's eery caw. Those orange monster books were a favorite for me as well, the one for Murders at the Rue Morgue was the only one I considered boring, so it only got one check out from the school library. Happiest of Halloweens to you and your family!NLogan's Retro Halloween OverloadOct 04, 2014View
1369ArticleHoju KoolanderYou are as always the king of mood setting layouts, the 8 bit monsters in the borders were great. Poor Steve, it was always special to me when the adults handing out candy were dressed up, it really amplified the spirit of the night. The soda displays were always epic, especially when Elvira and the Universal Monsters were involved thanks to Pepsi and Doritos. Good stuff!Flannel CornucopiaOct 04, 2014View
1384ArticleHoju Koolander@NLogan Definitely had The Duke style glasses. I so wish I still had the Haunted Mansion record. I went through the record collection at the old homestead a few years ago, but it had disappeared. I was able to save the Pirates of the Carribean one though. Not quite as cool, but still memorable.NLogan's Retro Halloween OverloadOct 06, 2014View
1402ArticleHoju KoolanderBen do you know if that Garfield special was based on the anthology graphic novel Garfield, His 9 Lives? I used to love reading that book, especially the one about the Vikings.Benjanime Scared Stupid IIIOct 08, 2014View
1414ArticleHoju KoolanderI totally forgot that Elvira used to do a show at the Halloween Haunt! I remember going to Knott's one year while they were transforming it to Knott's Scary Farm and the workers setting-up the stage near the Mine Car ride said it was because Elvira was coming for the Haunt. Then you had to go and mention Kingdom of the Dinosaurs (sniff) that was the only reason I went to Knott's back in the day. I loved the animatronic scientist narrator, "YOU"RE GOING BACK IN TIME!"Haunting MemoriesOct 09, 2014View
1415ArticleHoju KoolanderGood stuff, Mike. It's crazy that the syndicated cartoons in the morning and afternoons co-existed for so long with the Saturday Morning cartoon block, but I suppose this was inevitable. That said, you hit on some of my favorites: Beetlejuice, Camp Candy and those Sunkist commercials are instant nostalgia for me. As for some of the others, I have a Hammerman VHS tape packed away somewhere (yes, it's terrible) and I bought the complete series of Hey Vern, It's Ernest for $5 at Wal-Mart a while back, I like to put it on while I'm cleaning the house on Saturday mornings.R.I.P. 1421ArticleHoju Koolander@pikachulover That's crazy. All those trips to the Halloween Haunt, I thought for sure you would have had some sort of annual pass to Movieland Wax Museum. Chupacapra by the train tracks sounds like a great legend. Were there any goats there for him to snack on or just McNuggets? @NLogan I only know the Marvel comics version of Wendigo who fought the Hulk (and Wolverine in his first appearance), I'll have to check out the original version. My favorite was always "The Ghost with the Bloody Fingers". Nice list of wax memories, I remember being impressed that Michael Jackson had a whole room devoted to himself with a figure in his "Bad" outfit and they played his music videos from that album on a loop.Scary Stories from the SchoolyardOct 13, 2014View
1422ArticleHoju Koolander@Fulton4V I personally have always held Super Powers as the high standard for 80's action figures. From the sculpts, to the box art to the sheer number of characters, it was a beautiful line of toys. I still have my Superman, Batman, Robin, Aquaman and Lex Luthor! The Mini & The MightyOct 13, 2014View
1432ArticleHoju Koolander@NLogan Wow, that is an impressive and costly collection. You may be the only person who bought Hulk 180 and 181 for The Wendigo appearance, LOL. @Vaporman I wanna see those catfish, freaky! By the way, I called my Dad last night to confirm the first story about the haunted house, he said it was 100% true. Apparently the people that did buy it years later totally remodeled it to eliminate any connection to the deceased owners and possible haunting...crazy.Scary Stories from the SchoolyardOct 14, 2014View
