I would move the sweet potatoes up in their place (caramelized with brown sugar, the way mom made them). Next, I would take cranberry sauce off the list entirely. Blech!!! Carrots too. And probably squash. In their place, I would put butter noodles, rolls, and some kind of casserole. Yeah. That would hit the spot just right! Great idea for a Thanksgiving article Ben! I can't imagine losing a parent at such a young age, then having to face that and the holiday that really brought you both so much joy all at once every year thereafter. That you treat it more like a celebration of those times instead of a time to mourn is honorable and amazing. I can't know what you went through, but I too lost my mother in late October (actually the day after my wedding anniversary). So celebrating our anniversary and mourning the death of my mom are almost inseparable. But in the end both days are really a celebration of love. I find it awesome that the Yoda costume you are wearing in the article is almost the same as the vintage Yoda costume given away as part of last year's Halloween Article Contest. Ask Ben (Benjanime) to send you a photo of it. LOL There's is no doubt about the sheer joy you're experiencing in these photos. You were a die-hard trick-or-treating fanatic through and through. My personal costume choices were similarly varied. Sometimes I was out as one of the usual boxed, mask and vinyl bodysuit characters, but other times I would just buy a really creepy, decked out mask and couple that with some backwoods garb, like a puffy flannel jacket, ripped jeans, and boots. You just never knew what my choice would be that year. My final trick-or-treat outing was not even in my own neighborhood, but that of my friend, who was taking his little brother trick-or-treating. It felt bittersweet, but appropriate then. Now, it's just bittersweet. Then you have kids... and nobody cares that you are dressing up WITH them and eating THEIR candy. Because... you're the parent. I just want to refute a few things as I feel like my last sentence was taken out of context. I wasn't saying that Bush did 9/11. That last sentence was more so connected to the aftermath, where he declares war with Iraq, a country that has virtually nothing to do with the attacks, which Bush himself later admitted to be true. And yes, I know other countries hated us before that. I never said that no country on the planet hated us until Bush came to office, because, yeah, that is a load of crap. I was saying that Bush's response to the 9/11 is on fanning the flames on this situation. That is a part of it. Please read that last paragraph again more carefully before throwing any more accusations at me. We can go into actual theories as to what and who started 9/11, but I prefer not to. Much of this made my eyes bleed and ears bleed. Everything from the Ninja Rap to the Turtles on tour make you wonder what the heck those in charge of these decisions were thinking. I wonder how Eastman and Laird feel about these things. Do they hide under pillows wishing they would go away? Taking the cake though, is that Oprah interview. What the heck was the guy playing Raph thinking? Who says that as a Turtle with all these kids watching??? Good grief, that's just wrong. I'll admit that the Legends of Batman series is intriguing, but all they did with the Batman Animated Series in '94 was crank out 40,000 Batman variants and one bad guy. Good grief, if there was one thing I DESPISED about the 90's, it was the onset of the "variant"! Yes, we had our share of variants in the 80's, sure. Terror-Claws Skeletor??? But man, Kenner... and to an even greater extent, Playmates... just went OVERBOARD with the variants. Such a waste of plastic. Nice Shadow collection you have there. I enjoyed The Shadow, but never though much about it after my initial viewing. I liked Alec Baldwin at the time (less so as years passed and he became a liberal nutcase), and thought he performed the role adequately.
