1929 | Article | NLogan | Good ole Retro*Junk. With the GI*JOE star that I remember from when I joined in 2007. I came because of a random search that landed me in an article. I perused the commercials and TV intros. I stayed for the articles. I came during the transition from the stars to the thumbs up rating system. I generally steered clear of the nonsense in the forums. I left when the site was no longer about retro things and was entirely about factions complaining against each other. When I came back the site downgrade really turned me off and most of the things I liked about the Retro*Junk I knew were gone including most of my favorite users. It is nice to know they are not all lost forever and I have found some again here after being invited back to retro. | Feb 09, 2015
1928 | Article | Vaporman87 | Gee... you didn't strike a nerve with this one or anything. LOL | Remembering RetroJunk | Feb 09, 2015
1927 | Article | Vaporman87 | I had such a warped view of myself and them. I recall how I used to draw myself in my comics in comparison to them. I was this handsome, square-jawed hero type, and they were C level chubby sidekick types. So not near reality. Later in life, I began to draw myself in caricature style and I was far more accurate. Basically, I was the human version of a turtle. I even made a spin-off character named Turtle Boy. | Being The Fat Kid | Feb 09, 2015

1924 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @vkimo "Husky" would have been more acceptable to me, now that I think about it. It's got a softer feel to it. @Vaporman87 I think everyone had that fat friend they picked on, that's why I wrote the article. So I think you're off the hook. I just happened to BE the fat kid, but I realize now that kids are just dumb and can't think of much else to say. "Your ability to style your hair is sub-par" just doesn't have the same ring as, "Hey, Chubb-o". I had a friend who also used my weight as a source of comedy in our audio cassette recordings of fake morning shows and sketches, needless to say I found other partners pretty quickly. In retrospect his weak comic insults were kind of pointless, since it's not a visual medium. | Being The Fat Kid | Feb 09, 2015
1923 | Article | vkimo | I remember being described as "husky" once in 5th grade which is strange because I never remember being portly, I must have burned it off. I was always the average build. I can empathize with Vapor, I had a good friend who we always made jokes about, he took it pretty good (At least on the outside) and dished it out back to us. We're still friends on Facebook and chat. | Being The Fat Kid | Feb 09, 2015
1922 | Article | Vaporman87 | Man, I really enjoyed reading this. I also hated reading this. I'll confess to you why. I went through a short period of chubbiness as well, though I don't think anyone would say I was "fat". Again, it was short and I have little memory of it being an issue to me. But I made the fact that two of my closest friends were "fat" a very big issue... and I despise my young self for it. Yes, my friends knew I cared about them, and enjoyed their friendship. But I seemingly made it as difficult as possible for them to like me sometimes. This fact is evidenced by the comics, videos, and audio recordings I created of them or with them. Every time I listen to a recording made with these friends, I cringe and shake my head in disgust at the insults I threw their way. As if they weren't getting enough of it in school, here was someone who was SUPPOSED to be their friend giving them the worst of it. And it didn't stop with them. Bert himself is inspired by another "fat" kid who was not actually my friend. I invented all new words for their "fatness". Blobulous, blobuelull, globey, lard horg, etc. If there was one thing I wish I could go back and do over, it would be my insulting words and pictures. The sad thing is that, now that I am old enough to understand how awful I was, I have no way to apologize. One of the two friends passed away from diabetes. The other left his wife and two kids and headed out west (out of the blue) and never returned. I can't help but wonder if anything I did changed their lives for the worse. I can't bear that thought... it will haunt me forever. | Being The Fat Kid | Feb 09, 2015
1921 | Article | blueluigi | Great article all the way. It really hits the nail on the head on Retrojunk's history. If there is one thing that I would change are a few inaccuracies. Retrojunk's familiar design that we're all familiar with came along in 2005... not 2007. I first stumbled across Retrojunk at around 2004, but officially joined in 2005. I remember a lot of moments that came around with this site. Members like Reaper spamming the forums with his Fried Oreos Club, DucktalesFan1977 posting about his 80s memories and talked about how much the 90s sucked (though eventually as the account got banned and he registered as gustogummi... he did a complete 180). Sonic64 with the way he points out the obvious and how he argues with others about why we shouldn't hate Sonic or disagree with the things he likes... and how Mezase Master, Xe-A-Thoul, and others gave him what he deserved. It had it's good moments and sometimes bad moments. But in the end, I think it's one of the most diverse sites I've seen throughout the internet. Some of the autistic members on the site were one of the main reasons why I left the site a few times. Not that I don't like autistic people, mind you... and I used to enjoy poking fun at some of the autistic users who came on before. But there was a time where it got to a point where the autistic users just made the site that much less enjoyable, and so I decided to leave for a little while because of it. | Remembering RetroJunk | Feb 09, 2015
1920 | Article | MissM | Oh my goodness this was so cool! All right. I had (and still do) the Pound Puppies, Hugga Bunch, Pillow People, a Hulk Hogan Wrestling Buddy that I had the biggest crush on. I of course had a Popple and a slew of Care Bears. I loved Pillow People though. I have the cloud one. I also have a studded animal that is like an alphabet creature, where the letters are also part creature. Also, the Wuzzles were some important plushes. This was one amazing article. I've been meaning to comment on it for awhile, but things just get so hectic and busy. Hope all is well! | Stuffed Animals of the 80's | Feb 09, 2015
