4875Articleshakin steakFans of the first movie, look for the First Publishing graphic novel TMNT Volume IV. That collects the original comic book issues that were the basis for the film. There are scenes with the thrift store, Leonardo getting lost and beat up by the Foot Clan, April's family farm, Casey and Raph talking smack. Like most adaptations, the book takes more time, but is better than the movie! Check it out if you're so inclined. As for the space element, I agree about the Star Trek figures. Those were pretty lame. But overall, the series has a good relationship with outer-space style science fiction, if you would again go back to the Mirage/ Eastman and Laird comic books. The Triceratons were from another universe, and so were the TCRI guys that cartoon Krang was based on. There were many other story arcs besides those, that dealt with aliens and time travel. Speaking of time travel, some of the video game screenshots are from Turtles in Time which was the second arcade game, not mentioned in the text. Anyway. Not to be too critical. Great article! I always like to hear these personal memories and that counts more than anything. Mar 03, 2019View
4949Articleshakin steakInteresting that the third movie went lighter, and the first run late cartoons went darker, but both failed. I will say it sounds like both had good elements that are present in the original comics (time travel and other villains with dark theme). So were things poorly managed, or was everybody just tired of the characters? I never wanted to see the third movie. Honestly the first two are not good now and neither is the 86 series. However the 2003 show is decent. Nothing new though. It hews closely to the early comics. I think the lesson is to stick with quality writing from people who truly know the characters. Fast Forward was also good, imo. I still like the early comics and video games. Growing up I had the four trade paperbacks released by First Comics and they really collect some great stories. I think it’s a shame how much embarrassing material has been published in the TMNT name. The Rise and Fall of TMNTJun 01, 2019View
2040ArticleDerkGreat article, Vkimo! I definitely miss the glory days of the RetroJunk forum. It was certainly a lot of fun until horrible posters and the bugs showed up. There were some 'special' moments on that forum. I'm sure others who were there for a decent amount of time remember the 'death' of Pixies... Good times.Remembering RetroJunkFeb 22, 2015View
